News:

Due to the snow and dangerously cold temperatures, both MSD of Mt. Vernon and MSD of North Posey are closed today. They both will have a synchronous learning day.

The snow has moved out, but Arctic air, combined with northwest winds will push the temperature into the low single digits this morning. Wind chills could drop to 10 below zero. Bitter cold temps will linger through today with slow clearing and highs in the upper teens to around 20. Clear skies will allow another slide to the single digits on Friday morning. Sunshine and northeasterly winds will nudge the temperature into the mid to upper 20s on Friday. We should be dry through the weekend with warmer temps each day. Saturday’s high will crack into the mid-30s, and Sunday will bring lower 40s. Much milder air returns next week with highs in the low to mid 50s Monday-Wednesday. Our total snowfall for the season is now up to 19.75, counting Wednesday’s 2.25″ measured at Evansville Regional Airport. This makes it the third snowiest winter for the tri-state since 1995.

Last night in local college sports…Evansville Men’s Basketball eared a road win at Indiana State, 79-74. It’s back-to-back wins for the Aces as they snapped a 7-game losing streak against their in-state rival, the Sycamores. Four different UE players scored in double figures, led by Gabriel Pozzato who scored 22 points. Tayshawn Comer added 21 points, including the go-ahead bucket that broke a 74-74 tie with 46 seconds left. Joshua Hughes collected his first career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Connor Turnbull also chimed in with 15 points. Evansville improves to 11-17 on the year and 8-9 in the MVC. They are now in a 4-way tie for 5th place in the conference with 3 games to go.

The USI Women’s and Men’s Basketball team both play at home tonight against Eastern Illinois. The Women’s game tips off at 5:00 PM as the Screaming Eagles are 18-9 on the season and 10-6 in the OVC. The Men’s game will begin around 7:30 PM as USI is looking to end a 6-game losing streak. They sit at 9-17 and 4-12 in the conference.

In the NBA…the Indiana Pacers resume play after the All-Star Break this evening at home against the Memphis Grizzlies at 6:00 PM. With 29 games left in their season, the Pacers have a record of 30-23…which is good enough for 4th place in the Eastern Conference Standings.
