The University of Evansville announced Wednesday that they have begun a $1.2 million field renovation project. According to a release, the goal of the project is to elevate the overall collective experience for students, faculty and staff. Officials say in partnership between campus and UE athletics, the current intramural fields area located on the northwest tip of campus along the Lloyd Expressway will undergo a major renovation, highlighted by a full turf field. The field will provide opportunities to the entire UE campus community including a year-round outdoor turf facility for intramurals and the Purple Aces soccer programs, along with an open campus area for students to enjoy recreational activities. Officials say project construction is set to begin in the coming weeks and be completed in its entirety by the Fall of 2024.
Indiana Department of Transportation crews are gearing up for road work that may impact your daily commute. Lane restrictions will be in place soon on Interstate 64 and Interstate 69. For I-64, officials say crews will restrict both the east and west bound passing lanes. This project is to install new road signs that notify drivers this will soon be a route to Indianapolis. The work is expected to last through the end of May. As for I-69, crews will restrict lanes going north and south in Evansville near SR 62 and SR 66. This project will allow crews to install a culvert under the highway to help with water drainage. Gary Brian with INDOT says drivers should give themselves extra time to navigate the traffic patterns.
Red Cross is partnering with students at University of Southern Indiana to provide a class that might just save your life. This is a hands-only CPR class and it’s meant to teach a skill that Red Cross officials say can double the rate of survival if someone is experiencing a cardiac emergency. USI nursing students will be teaching the training course. The course takes 30 minutes to complete. There are multiple sessions happening on Saturday February 17th from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM.
Sports from last night, there was no local action at the high school or college level. From the NBA, the Indiana Pacers played their final game before the All-Star Break as they were in Toronto to battle the Raptors. The Pacers were able to pull out a 127-125 victory as Pascal Siakam led the attack with 23 points. Tyrese Haliburton also added 21 points and 12 assists. Indiana heads into the break with a 31-25 record and in 6th place in the Eastern Conference. The Pacers will be hosting all of the NBA All-Star festivities this weekend at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in downtown Indianapolis.
Coming up tonight in local college sports…both the USI Women’s and Men’s Basketball team plays at UT Martin. The Women’s game will tip at 5:30 PM and the Men’s game will follow around 7:30 PM. USI Women’s Basketball is 16-6 overall and they are in first place in the OVC with an 11-1 conference mark. The Screaming Eagles Men’s Basketball team sits at 7-18 on the year and 4-8 in the OVC.
Evansville Women’s Basketball is also in action this evening as they are home on campus at Meeks Family Fieldhouse against the Southern Illinois Salukis at 6:00 PM. It’s been a rough go of it for the Purple Aces Women’s team this year as they are 3-20 overall and 1-11 in the MVC.
