Two Indiana State Police detectives in the Tri-State are being recognized for their hard work. The Chief of Police in Wheat Ridge Colorado gave Detective Brandon Deig and Nick Hatfield a Medal of Commendation Award for their involvement in capturing a murder suspect from Colorado. On January 5th, 2023, police say a man robbed and murdered a gas station owner in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, and then fled the state in the owner’s car. The next day, ISP troopers tried to stop the driver for speeding on I-64 in Posey County. Officers say the driver did not stop and led troopers on a chase that ended in their eventual apprehension. After his arrest, troopers learned he might be involved in a homicide after running registration information on the car.  

 

Coming up this Saturday at United Fidelity Bank in Mt. Vernon, is a Pictures with Santa event. It will take place from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Saturday. There will be free pictures, crafts, and refreshments. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

 

Posey County Solid Waste District has announced that the December Tox-away day is today from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the Mt. Vernon Recycling Center. This will be the last opportunity to properly dispose of household hazardous waste until March. For more information, call the Solid Waste District at 838-1613.

Pacers Sports & Entertainment is coming back down to Evansville for the 15th annual Big Toy Giveaway. Event organizers say today, all 440 students at Tekoppel Elementary School will receive a special toy. The giveaway comes through a partnership between the Pacers and the Evansville Police Department. The event will kick off at 1:30 PM this afternoon with opening remarks from Pacers staff. Afterwards, students will enjoy a festive celebration that includes photo opportunities with the NBA and WNBA mascots.

 

Last night in local high school sports…North Posey Boys Basketball took care of Day School on the road, 62-35. It’s now back-to-back wins for the Vikings as they improve their record to 2-2. North Posey plays at Mt. Vernon tomorrow night.

North Posey Girls Basketball picked up a win at home over Boonville, 54-33. The Lady Vikings have won 4-straight games and now sit at 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the PAC.

 

In local college action on Wednesday…USI Women’s Basketball gave the Indiana Hoosiers quite the battle in Bloomington as the Lady Eagles fell, 67-63. Ali Saunders had 14 points to pace USI as they drop to 7-2 on the season.

 

From the NBA last night, the Indiana Pacers lost a third-straight game in Brooklyn to the Nets, 99-90. Tyrese Haliburton scored 17 points in a losing effort as the Pacers dip to 9-14 on the year.
