The Posey County EMS is going to be having a Car Set and Flu Vaccine Clinic coming up this afternoon at the Marrs Fire Station on 5460 Ford Road. The Clinic will take place in the drive thru bay from 2-4PM. No appointments are required, but if you would like more information, call 812-781-0330.
The Posey County Community Foundation has announced that there will be scholarship awards available once again this year through the Community Scholarship Program which is made possible by donors. Students may apply for one or more scholarships as long as they meet the particular requirements. Details and applications for all available scholarships can be found on the website, poseycountycf.org and then clicking on the purple scholarships button on the right hand side of the page. The deadline to apply for the scholarships is Friday February 2nd.
The MSD of Mount Vernon has announced a ribbon cutting for their new Athletic Practice Facility at Mount Vernon High School. The ribbon cutting will take place on Friday January 12th at noon. The public is invited to attend. The new practice facility contains something for all sports, has a 120ft by 120 ft turf floor and 40 ft ceilings and a second floor warm up area so that the facility can be shared by multiple teams.
The Mount Vernon Police Department is accepting applications for a police officers positions. Applications are going to be accepted through January 12th and the starting pay is noted at $56,644 dollars increasing to $58,644 after the first year. The Posey County 911 Regional Dispatch office is now accepting applications and resumes for two Part Time Dispatchers positions. Applicants need to have flexible availability for weekends and swing shifts, as well as be able to dedicate at least 32 hours a week during 12 weeks of training. They say this part-time position could lead to a full-time position if one were to become available. Applicants must have a High School Diploma or GED. Candidates must be able to type forty words per minute, handle many tasks, and have excellent communication skills. Applicants must be able to pass a background check. Vernon, IN Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, or can be e-mailed to 911dispatch@poseycountyin.gov. Applications are being be accepted until 8:00 AM on Wednesday, December 27th.
The United Way of Posey County wants to remind you about their half pot raffle taking place on December 31st. The present jackpot is around $1200 and rising. This Saturday at the Poseyville community center will be the Poseyville Kiwanis Club, Breakfast with Santa event. This will be taking place from 8:00-11:00 AM at 60 North Church Street. Ticket prices at the door will be $9.00 for kids 4 to 9 years old and $12 for ages 10 and up. Kids 4 and under will get in for free. The Event will include a pancake breakfast along with a visit from Santa's reindeer, crafts, pictures with Santa and other various activities. Again this event is taking place from 8-11 on Saturday brought to you by the Poseyville Kiwanis Club.
In high school sports last night, North Posey hosted a dual wrestling meet with Mount Vernon and Evansville Memorial. Memorial took down North Posey with a score of 40 – 28. Mount Vernon beat North Posey as well with a score of 45 – 26.
In high school sports tonight, The North Posey Girls Basketball team will take on Mater Dei on the road. It is a varsity only match with the tip starting at 6:00. The North Posey Boys Freshman team will be on the road tonight as well taking on Tecumseh. That tip is also scheduled for 6:00.
For the Mount Vernon Wildcats, the boys and girls swimming teams will be at Castle High School taking on Castle and Boonville. The swim meet will start at 5:00. And the Wildcats girls varsity wrestling team will host Southridge. That meet is scheduled for 5:30
