Shortly after officials arrived on scene, they say a brief standoff occurred with the alleged suspect. A release shows that is when 27-year-old Chayse Hayhurst of Evansville, came out of the home completely naked holding a handgun. Deputies say they were able to talk to Hayhurst and get him to drop the gun. He was then arrested. Hayhurst was booked into the Posey County Jail where at the time deputies say he threatened them. Campers will be able to have campfires at Harmonie State Park during Posey County’s burn ban though. Labor Day weekend can be a busy time at the park. On Tuesday, the Indiana Secured School Safety Board approved the money for nearly 500 schools across the state. According to a release, the board voted unanimously to split more than $24 million across those schools. Officials say $16 million of the grant will go toward school resource officers, while $5 million will be used to upgrade security equipment and technology. Other projects that will be funded by the grant include firearms training for school staff, assessing campuses for vulnerabilities, and student-parent support services. The IHSAA Executive Committee announced the addition of girls’ lacrosse to the Emerging Sport Process to help pave a way for the sport to continue growth, and possibly become a recognized sport and sponsorship of an official state tournament. Girls’ lacrosse is the third to earn the designation following boys’ volleyball and girls wrestling, which were approved for full sponsorship last April. For a sport to become officially recognized and an IHSAA state tournament to be sponsored, 100 schools must be participating in the sport. According to data submitted from the coach’s association, in 2023, there were 39 schools around the state with a school-sponsored varsity or club program.
