The University of Southern Indiana has picked its next president. It was announced yesterday afternoon that Steven J. Bridges would take over the role, effective immediately. He served as Interim President since July 20th, 2024. Bridges is now the fifth president of the university.

 

Coming up this Saturday evening, North Posey High School’s TEENPOWER Club is hosting a free movie night in the fieldhouse for 6th-12th grade students. The movie that is being featured is The Sandlot. There will also be games and free pizza and popcorn. The event this Saturday evening is from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM. The movie starts at 7:00 PM.

 

After a four-month search process, the Board of Directors of Tri-State Food Bank have named their new executive director. Officials say Zac Heronemus will begin his new role with the food bank on April 28th, succeeding Glenn Roberts who announced his retirement last fall. A food bank spokesperson says that Heronemus comes to Tri-State Food Bank as a trusted community leader and a proven manager of non-profit organizations, most recently having served over five years as the executive director of Aurora, Inc., which works to prevent and end homelessness in the greater Evansville area. Tri-State Food Bank is a member of Feeding America’s national network of 200 food banks.

 

Dr. Andy Lampkins has been named the Dean of the University of Evansville’s College of Education and Health Sciences effective June 1st. According to a press release, Dr. Lampkins has served as interim dean since September of 2023. He joined the faculty at UE in 2013 as the G. Richard and Rita ‘59 Eykamp Endowed Chair in Chemistry. Prior to his time at UE, Dr. Lampkins held positions as a Walther Cancer Institute Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Notre Dame and was a faculty member at Samford University.

 

From Major League Baseball on Wednesday…the St. Louis Cardinals won the finale of their 3-game series at home against the Los Angeles Angels, 12-5. Cardinals Catcher, Ivan Herrera smashed 3 home runs and drove in 6 runs. Herrera is the first Redbird Catcher to hit 3 home runs in a single game. St. Louis improves to 4-2 and will have today off. They open a 3-game set in Boston on Friday afternoon.

The Chicago Cubs swept the Athletics on the road, 10-2. The Cubs are now 5-4 overall and will have today off, before playing their home opener tomorrow afternoon against the San Diego Padres.

For a second-straight game, the Cincinnati Reds lost 1-0 at home to the Texas Rangers. The Reds slide to 2-4 on the season. Cincinnati starts a 4-game series in Milwaukee this evening against the Brewers at 6:40 PM.

 

In the NBA last night, the Indiana Pacers took care of business at home as they defeated the Charlotte Hornets, 119-105. Tyrese Haliburton led the way with 22 points and 10 assists. The Pacers record soars to 45-31 and they will wrap up their 3-game homestand tomorrow night against the Utah Jazz.
