Coming up this evening at 5:00 PM is the Mt. Vernon Parks and Recreation Department’s annual Easter Egg Hunt. It will take place at Hedges on Locust Street. The hunt will be on the playground on the south side of the property. They say to bring your own basket.
Tonight, the Posey County Democrat Women’s Club will meet at 6:00 PM at 217 West Third Street in Mt. Vernon. The guest speaker will be Vanderburgh County Sheriff, Noah Robinson. He will be discussing current immigration roundup status.
Harmonie State Park says their Easter Egg Hunt will happen rain, or shine on Saturday morning. It will start promptly at 10:00 AM and you should meet at the old pool area. This is for kids that are 10 years of age and younger. Gate fees do apply. It is 7 dollars for Indiana plated vehicles and 9 dollars for out-of-state vehicles, or you can use your annual entrance pass.
The MSD of Mt. Vernon is inviting all MSD of Mt. Vernon families to a Community Townhall with Dr. Stephanie Stewart and other school district leaders on Thursday, April 24th. The Community Townhall will take place from 5:30 PM until 6:30 PM at 601 Main Street in Mt. Vernon. This will be a chance to get to know the new superintendent and share your thoughts on a wide variety of topics.
Today, the American Red Cross and Evansville/Vanderburgh EMA ARE getting cleanup supplies into the hands of citizens who need them. The items being handed out are meant to help those impacted by recent severe weather. The event is today from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM at the Harte Pool parking lot on N. Boeke Road.
Another Evansville park is getting some new improvements. In a press release, the Department of Parks and Recreation say new playground equipment will be installed at Stevenson Park on Morton Avenue. This announcement follows similar upgrades announced earlier this year, including additions to Fulton Park and Garvin Park. Officials say the old playground equipment will be removed the week of April 21st. The upgrades at Stevenson Park are part of Mayor Stephanie Terry’s administration focus on Neighborhood Revitalization, with a continued emphasis on improving Evansville’s parks and creating spaces where families can play, gather, and thrive.
Last night in local high school sports…North Posey Softball lost at Tecumseh, 7-0. Vikings Softball drops to 4-3 on the season.
North Posey Baseball dropped a game at Vincennes, 8-5. Vikings Baseball is now 5-3 overall. They play again this evening at home against Pike Central at 5:00 PM.
Mt. Vernon Softball got beat at Harrison, 10-8. Wildcats Softball slides to 2-4 on the year.
Mt. Vernon Baseball was off last night, but they return to action this evening at home as they take on Gibson Southern at 5:30 PM. The Wildcats a record of 1-3.
In local college sports tonight…USI Baseball starts a 3-game series on the road at SIU Edwardsville at 4:00 PM. The Screaming Eagles have lost 5-straight games. They are 16-20 overall and 7-5 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Evansville Baseball is at home this evening as they open a 3-game set with Indiana State at 6:00 PM. The Purple Aces will try to end a 5-game losing streak. UE is 11-24 on the year and 5-7 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
In Major League Baseball on Wednesday…the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Houston Astros in St. Louis, 4-1. Lars Nootbaar blasted a 3-run homerun. The Cardinals won 2-of-3 in the series and completed a 6-game homestand with a 4-2 record. They are now 9-9 on the season. St. Louis heads to New York for the 1st of 4 games with the Mets tonight at 6:10 PM.
The Chicago Cubs got tripped up in the finale out in San Diego against the Padres, 4-2. The Cubs slip to 12-9 overall. They are off today and will return home for a 3-game weekend series against the Arizona D-Backs tomorrow afternoon at 1:20 PM.
The Cincinnati Reds lost at home to the Seattle Mariners, 5-3 yesterday. The Reds fall back to 500 on the season at 9-9. They wrap up their series today in Cincinnati at 11:40 AM.
