Vanderburgh County Commissioners say Burdette Park and the surrounding areas are experiencing severe flooding. They say the river is expected to crest at around 48 feet, which is the highest it’s been since 1945. The main entrance and exit at Burdette Park is now closed because of high water. Officials say Nurrenbern Road is expected to become impassable soon. Starting Friday, Burdette Park will be closed to the public until further notice, including all scheduled events.
Posey County Emergency Management announced last night that New Harmony water has been restored. There is a boil order in effect for at least 48 hours. In New Harmony, you should boil your water through at least Friday evening.
MSD of North Posey County is having an e-Learning Day today. The staff uses these days for professional development training to benefit students and enhance classroom instruction. Students will not report to school buildings today. They say assignments will be communicated from classroom teachers.
Brittlebank Pool at Brittlebank Park in Mt. Vernon will not reopen this summer. City officials announced the closure after structural engineers reported that the pool is no longer safe due to accelerated deterioration over the past winter. The pool has served the community for more than 50 years and was nearing the end of its life cycle. Plans for a new pool are underway. The city has partnered with Hafer Associates of Evansville to begin the design process, and the public will have opportunities to provide input. Updates will be shared on the city’s Facebook page and website. In the meantime, the Ruth Fulwider Community Center, located at the Hedges School building, door 11, will remain open year-round. New events, activities, and programming are being planned for the summer. A full schedule and hiring details will be announced in the coming weeks.
Mt. Vernon Junior High School is putting on a production of Matilda Jr. The Musical this weekend. It will be at the Mt. Vernon High School Performing Arts Center on Friday at 7:00 PM and on Saturday at 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Tickets are 7 dollars.
Knights of St. John is having a Fish Fry tomorrow night from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. There will be Fried Fish, Potato Salad, Cole Slaw, Baked Beans, Macaroni and Cheese, Corn Bread, Grilled Cheese, and Drinks. Dine In or Drive Thru options will be available. From Major League Baseball on Wednesday…the St. Louis Cardinals lost the finale of a 3-game series in Pittsburgh against the Pirates, 2-1 in 13 innings. The Cardinals went just 1-5 on their 6-game road trip as they slide to 5-7 on the year. St. Louis is off today before hosting the Philadelphia Phillies in a 3-game set that starts Friday night.
The Chicago Cubs could not complete the 3-game sweep of the Texas Rangers in Chicago as the Cubs lost 6-2. They are now 9-6 overall and will have today off. The Cubs begin a series in Los Angeles against the Dodgers Friday evening.
The Cincinnati Reds failed to complete a 3-game sweep of the Giants in San Francisco as the Reds got beat, 8-6 in 10 innings. Cincinnati is 5-8 on the season. After a day off today, the Reds return home on Friday to square off against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Tonight, in the NBA…the Indiana Pacers continue their 3-game homestand as they take on the Cleveland Cavaliers at 6:00 PM. The Pacers have won 5-straight games and currently have a record of 48-31. Indiana has only 3 games left in the regular season. They sit in 4th place in the Eastern Conference Standings and their magic number is 1 to clinch the 4th seed and home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
