The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced a four-way stop conversion at the intersection of State Road 69 and Tile Factory Road. That conversion is planned for this Thursday. Officials say crews will convert the current two-way stop at State Road 69 and Tile Factory Rd. in Posey County to a four-way stop. The installation follows a traffic study at the intersection. Since January 2021, there have been seven crashes at this intersection. Five of those crashes have resulted in serious injuries. The intersection is located on the Keck Bypass, near Mount Vernon. According to a release, once the conversion is finished, traffic on both roadways will be required to stop at the intersection.
This Wednesday, the town of Cynthiana is presenting Halloween in the Park. The event will last from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. There will be a Trunk or Treat, Pumpkin Painting, and Food.
Coming up this Thursday is the Poseyville Hide and Seek from the Police. You can show up at the Poseyville Community Center to receive your wristband at 8:00 PM. They say you will be released at 9:00 PM and be given a 15-minute head start. You can sign up for the event at the Poseyville Carnegie Public Library.
United Way of Posey County is reminding the community that you still have time to sign up for this Saturday’s 5K Run/Walk Event and Kids Dash. Bib pickup is at 7:30 AM, start time is at 8:00 AM. And the kids dash is set for 9:15 AM. The race starts and ends at the Cox Group, which is located at 427 Locust Street in Mt. Vernon. To register for the race, visit runsignup.com.
Mount Vernon High School leaders cut the ribbon last Thursday on their new welding lab. The event marked the opening of John D. Haynes School of Welding Technology at Mount Vernon High School. The new space was possible due to investments from BWXT, a tech company, along with the U.S. Navy investing $500,000 into the brand-new building, to help further the education of students interested in getting a job in welding. BWXT representatives say about 40 students are currently enrolled in the program and by next year the school could have around 60 students per year, with a plan to graduate at least 20 students each year from the program, ready to join the industry.
This past Friday was the first round of sectionals for High School Football teams across the tri-state area and the season came to an end for both Posey County teams. The North Posey Vikings suffered a 38-36 loss at South Vermillion. The Vikings season ends with a 7-3 record.
The Mt. Vernon Wildcats fell at Southridge, 55-35. The Wildcats end the season with a 5-5 mark.

Week 8 action from the NFL yesterday saw the Colts fall in Houston to the Texans, 23-20. Indy drops to .500 at 4-4. The Titans got mauled by the Lions in Detroit, 52-14. Tennessee is now 1-6. The Packers escaped Jacksonville with a 30-27 victory over the Jaguars. Green Bay runs their record to 6-2. The Bears got clipped in Washington by the Commanders, 18-15. Chicago slips to 4-3. The Bengals got tripped up at home by the Philadelphia Eagles, 37-17. Cincy tumbles to 3-5.
From the NBA…the Indiana Pacers lost their home opener in overtime against the Philadelphia 76ers, 118-114. Tyrese Haliburton scored 22 points in the loss. The Pacers are now 1-2 on the young season. Indiana plays again tonight in Orlando against the Magic at 6:00 PM.
