Another Mt. Vernon High School student has won the Courier and Press Student of the Week Award. Cassidy Jones, who is a senior, won last week’s award. Cassidy excels in school academically and is also involved in volleyball, basketball, National Honor Society, Key Club, pep club, and unified track. After graduation, Cassidy plans to major in nursing with a goal of becoming a neonatal physician’s assistant.
North Posey High School posted on Facebook that their Spell Bowl team took 6th place overall in the state. Makayla Helfert, Audrey Fisher, and Katelyn Seibert were all perfect spellers. The Junior High team finished 12th overall in the state.
Harmonie State Park has announced that they will be closed past the office today and tomorrow for their maintenance deer hunt. All trails and the park will reopen on Wednesday morning at 7:00 AM.
The town of Poseyville is reminding residents to update their phone numbers on recent utility bills. The notice comes after attempts made to check on higher than normal utility bills with certain customers and not being able to contact the residents with the number on file. If you know that you have had a change of number or a canceled land line, they ask that you contact the office at 812 874 2211 or send a note in with your payment with a current number.
A new ceramics-focused exhibition is on display at the University of Southern Indiana New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art. Officials say the exhibit titled “Grow Up!” was created by Ashley Banks and Jade Young and explores embracing your inner child. According to USI, the exhibit will be open through December 7th at 506 Main Street in New Harmony, Indiana. A public opening reception was held yesterday afternoon. Regular hours for the gallery are 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM Tuesday through Saturday.

The University of Evansville Men's Soccer team won the MVC Tournament Championship on Saturday, securing their spot in the NCAA Tournament. The Aces beat #3 seed Bowling Green 3-2 in overtime for their chance to play in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in almost 30 years. The University held a welcome home ceremony for the team at the Carson Center on Sunday. The Purple Aces will learn their first opponent in the NCAA Tournament this afternoon.
Over the weekend, North Posey Girls Basketball began their regular season slate. The Lady Vikings split the first two games of the year as they lost at Gibson Southern on Friday, 57-53 and won at Wood Memorial on Saturday, 52-47. North Posey will play at Mt. Vernon on Friday.
In local College Basketball from this past weekend…Evansville Men’s Basketball lost at home against Radford on Saturday, 92-81. The Purple Aces let an 18-point halftime lead slip away. Cam Haffner poured in a career-high 23 points in the loss. Evansville is now 1-3 overall and will play at Ohio State tomorrow evening.
USI Men’s Basketball lost at Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday, 93-74. Jared Washington had 19 points for the Screaming Eagles, who fall to 1-4 on the year. USI is home on Friday and will take on South Dakota.
USI Women’s Basketball earned a 71-59 win at home yesterday against Saint Louis. Meredith Raley paced USI with 19 points, as they improve their record to 4-1. They don’t play again until this Saturday at home against Northern Kentucky.
Evansville Women’s Basketball did not play over the weekend, but they are in action this evening at Lindenwood at 6:00 PM. The Lady Aces sit at 2-1.
From the NBA…the Indiana Pacers defeated the Miami Heat at home on Sunday, 119-110. Myles Turner had a big game for the Pacers as he collected 34 points. Indiana improves to 6-7 and will play again tonight in Toronto against the Raptors at 6:30 PM.
In Week 11 action yesterday in the NFL…the Indianapolis Colts squeaked out a win in New York against the Jets, 28-27. After being benched the last two weeks, Colts Quarterback Anthony Richardson went 20-for-30 passing for 272 yards with a touchdown pass and rushed for two scores as well. Richardson had the go-ahead 4-yard rushing touchdown with 46 seconds left in the game. The Colts improve to 5-6 and will be home to face the Detroit Lions on Sunday for their Week 12 game.
The Green Bay Packers scratched out a 20-19 win in Chicago over the Bears, thanks to a blocked 46-yard field goal as time expired. The Packers improve to 7-3 and the Bears slip to 4-6.
The Tennessee Titans couldn’t get much going on Sunday as they fall at home to the Minnesota Vikings, 23-13. The Titans are now 2-8.
