Today is the first official day of practice for all high school fall sports teams. In terms of the Football season, we will be broadcasting all the Mt. Vernon games on 106.7 FM WMVI and all the North Posey games on 98.9 FM WPIW. Chris Cooke and Allen Buck will be back once again behind the mic for Mt. Vernon Football, while Jordan Fisher and Chris Morlan will have the North Posey broadcasts. All games will be streamed online at poseycountyradio.com as well. The first week of the regular season is Friday, August 18th when North Posey travels to play Mt. Vernon. We will also have a coaches show on Monday nights for each team. The first Mt. Vernon show will be in the evening on Monday, August 7th at United Fidelity Bank. The first North Posey show will be on Monday, August 14th. We will have more details on those shows later in the week.
Posey County Sheriff’s Deputy Bryan Hicks threw out the ceremonial first pitch at Saturday night’s Cardinals vs. Cubs game in St. Louis. Bryan, his wife Tammy, and several other deputies made the trip to the game. Deputy Hicks is still recovering after he was shot in the line of duty in 2021. He has started doing some driving on his own.
The Posey County Sheriff’s National Night Out is tomorrow at Cynthiana Town Park from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. All Posey County residents are invited to come out and enjoy burgers, hotdogs, chips, and ice cream. Kona Ice will also be available from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. New this year, School Resource Officer Carter will have his squad car available to fill with donations of back-to-school supplies. These supplies will benefit the North Posey students and help start the school year off right. If you are unable to make the event, but would still like to donate, you can reach out to Officer Carter to make arrangements.
This is the last full week of summer vacation for students and teachers and the MSD of Mt. Vernon put out a release with some information. All school building offices have been open since last Monday. Office hours until school resumes are from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM. Specific questions should be directed to the appropriate school principal’s office. The first day for students will be Tuesday, August 8th. The first day will be a full day. Parents may contact their student’s school or the Administration Office to determine which bus their student will ride and obtain the bus driver’s phone number. All student immunizations need to be up to date as required by Indiana state law. North Posey High School wants to remind parents of a couple of important dates for the start of the school year. This Wednesday, August 2nd will be Freshman Orientation from 6:00-7:30 PM. Then next Monday, August 7th they will have Parent Information Night at 7:00 PM in the High School Auditorium. Topics covered there will include attendance, citizenship, final exam exemptions, Indiana GPS, and career pathways.
North Posey Basketball is hosting a Trivia Night coming up on Saturday, August 12th. Doors open at 6:00 PM and the Trivia will start at 7:00 PM. They are still encouraging people to sign up. The Mt. Vernon M-Club will be holding their annual picnic and fundraiser on Saturday August 26th at the Country Mark Golf Course and Pavilion. Golf teams will have a shotgun start at 7:30 AM. Golf will cost 65 dollars per person, which will include M-Club dues and lunch after golf. You can contact M-Club President Scott Mitchell at 812-550-0153 to reserve your golf foursome. Lunch and raffles will start at 11:30 AM. The lunch is catered by Hawg-N-Sauce. If you are not golfing, the lunch will be 15 dollars per person and M-Club dues of 20 dollars will be collected at the event.

- The St. Louis Cardinals (47-60) have this evening off. They will be in action again tomorrow evening as they welcome the Minnesota Twins to Busch Stadium for the start of a 3-game series.
- The Cincinnati Reds (58-49) and Chicago Cubs (53-52) start a big 3-game series in Chicago tonight at 7:05 PM. The Reds are in 1st place in the NL Central…and they sit a half game up on the Brewers. The Cubs are in 3rd place in the Central, but just 4.0 games behind the Reds.
