Friends of Harmonie State Park posted on Facebook their encouragement for the community to swing by the Mt. Vernon Riverfront Market Night this evening from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. There will be vendors, food trucks, music, and the Friends of Harmonie will be selling raffle tickets. Tickets are also available in the camp store of Harmonie State Park. All proceeds will support a new playground in the Wabash fishing area. You can purchase five tickets for five dollars, twelve tickets for ten dollars, or twenty-five tickets for twenty dollars. The drawing will be on July 6th at 6:00 PM. You don’t have to be present to win.

 

Coming up tomorrow evening is another Poseyville Farmer’s Market night. Tuesday’s theme is Grillin ‘N Chillin and Diggin. It takes place tomorrow night from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Community Center on 60 North Church Street in Poseyville. They will have a demonstration on how to grill vegetables and you will be able to take home recipes to try it yourself. There will also be free snow cones and kids will have the chance to pan for treasure and keep what they find.

 

Black Township Fire Department hosted a mock drill for disaster relief on Friday. There were multiple fire departments and local EMS units that participated in the event. The drill started at 8:00 AM at the Farmersville Elementary School in Mt. Vernon.

 

Family Matters of Posey County has announced that there will be a free kids summer wellness class. It is for kids entered 3rd through 5th grades. The classes will be on four consecutive Friday’s starting on July 12th. They will be an hour long from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM. During the four-week program students will explore what a balanced diet means for long-term health, discover how to make new healthy treats, enjoy thrilling games, and exciting exercises. The St. Louis Cardinals finished off their 10-game homestand with a 2-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds yesterday at Busch Stadium. The two teams split the four-game series, but the Cardinals went 7-3 over the course of their 10-game homestand. St. Louis improves to 43-40 on the year and Cincinnati falls to 39-45 on the season. Both teams have today off. The Cardinals will be in Pittsburgh tomorrow night to battle the Pirates, while the Reds head to New York tomorrow evening to square off with the Yankees.

 

The Chicago Cubs lost their series finale in Milwaukee to the Brewers on Sunday, 7-1. The Cubs slip to 39-46 and have today off. Chicago returns home on Tuesday to welcome the Philadelphia Phillies.
