The Posey County Fair gets underway today in New Harmony. Activities before the fair took place over the weekend with the princess and teen pageants on Saturday and the beef show yesterday. The fair kicks off tonight with the Farm Bureau Inc. meal at 5:00 PM and the first night of the professional rodeo at 7:30 PM. General admission is $8 per person and free admission for children 10 and under. Veterans receive free admission on Wednesday and first responders will have free admission on Thursday. Posey County authorities say they've arrested a man following a deadly crash that happened today. The Posey County Sheriff's Office says 35-year-old Dustin Broad of Spotsville, Kentucky, was arrested in connection to the crash. Deputies were called to the scene of the crash around SR 66 and Bluegrass Road. At the scene, the Sheriff’s Office says a man and a woman were inside a vehicle in a ditch, and that the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was able to get out and was taken to the hospital. He was later released and identified as Broad. Broad was driving on a suspended license and had several active warrants from Vanderburgh County and Warrick County. Broad is also suspected of driving under the influence at the time of today’s deadly crash. Broad was booked into the Posey County Jail on felony charges of DUI and DUI causing death, along with several misdemeanor charges. The sheriff's office says Broad has a prior conviction for driving under the influence. The name of the woman who died hasn't been released at this time.

 

A trial date has now been pushed back for a third time in a 2021 double murder case in Mt. Vernon. Officials say court records show the jury trial for Austin Kusturin is now set to start on December 11th. It was previously scheduled for August 14th. Kusturin was arrested after John and Elizabeth Hall were found dead in their home on Mulberry Street in Mount Vernon back in November 2021.

 

Posey County dispatch says officers responded to a crash in Posey County Saturday evening. According to dispatch, the call came in just before 6:30 p.m. in the area of Leonard and State Road 62. Dispatch confirms two vehicles were involved and EMS took one person to the hospital.

 

The Poseyville Police Department is warning the area of a new scam that is going on. They say it was brought to their attention that a new scam that appears to be a message or a text from their Fire Department offering money off shirt orders. The Department says do not click the link, because it is spam.

 

A new paramedic program begins serving people in Posey County today. Officials say it’s aimed at cutting down on trips to the hospital and providing in-home care for non-emergency calls. They say a trip to the hospital isn’t needed for all medical situations. Paramedic Amy Woodley oversees the new program. She says they will also follow up with patients who are released from the hospital. This program is fairly new to Indiana. Scott Township in Vanderburgh County began theirs in January.

  • The Cincinnati Reds (50-44) look to snap a 4-game losing streak as they get a series underway home with the San Francisco Giants at 6:10 PM.   

 

  • The Chicago White Sox (40-55) are off tonight, before heading to New York to face the Mets tomorrow.
