It’s Fair Week in Posey County and the Posey County Royalty Court was crowned on Saturday. The Posey County Princess was Koralyn Conyers, Posey County Duchess went to Layne Ensor, while Miss Teen Posey County was Alivia Williams, and Miss Posey County was Amber Allyn.

Tonight, at the Posey County Fair there will be a meal from the Posey County Fair Association in the community center from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. It will be a barbecue pork meal with sides, drink, and dessert included. The meal is 15 dollars for adults and just 5 dollars for kids.

At 5:30 PM this evening there is the Tenure Recognition Program and 4-H Auction in the community center. Then at 7:30 PM it’s night one of the professional rodeo including bulls, broncs, trick riders, and more in the main arena.

There will be free carnival rides from 5:00 PM until 10:00 PM and a free kids zone from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

To get in its 8 dollars per-person, or you can get a season pass for 30 dollars. Kids 10 years old and under get in for free.

 

North Posey Football’s youth camp is quickly approaching. It will take place July 29th through the 31st in the evening at the high school football field from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM. The camp is for incoming kindergarten through 8th grade students. All participants must sign up to get their free t-shirt and sign a waiver.

 

The Mt. Vernon Parks and Recreation Department says that fall youth sports signups are now available. This is for tackle/flag football, cheer, soccer, and volleyball. They say that one thing new this year is that volleyball will now be 2nd through 6th grades. Mt. Vernon Wildcat Youth Basketball Association is encouraging the community to come out to the riverfront this Saturday evening and watch a classic basketball movie, Space Jam. The event is sponsored by the Wildcats Youth Basketball Association. There will be drinks, snacks, and some Space Jam themed items. The movie will start at dusk.

 

The St. Louis Cardinals lost their final game before the All-Star Break yesterday at home 8-3 against the Chicago Cubs. The two teams split the four-game weekend series at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals head into the break with a 50-46 record, while the Cubs are 47-51. St. Louis is in 2nd place in the National League Central and are 4.5 game behind the 1st place Milwaukee Brewers. Chicago is in last place in the division and 8.5 games back of the Brewers. As far as the Wild Card chase goes, the Redbirds own the 2nd Wild Card slot and have a game and a half cushion for a playoff spot. The Cubbies are 3.5 games back of a playoff spot.

The Cincinnati Reds fell at home on Sunday against the Miami Marlins, 3-2. The Reds head into the All-Star Break at 47-50. They are in 4th place in the Central and sit 8.0 games out of first place. Cincy is 3.0 games back of a playoff spot.
