Saturday night on the basketball court, it was the Posey County battle between Mt. Vernon and North Posey Boys Basketball at North Posey High School. The Vikings came away with a 60-41 win. Kylan Wathan had 17 points to pace North Posey, Jackson Graff added 12 points, and Austin Schmitt had 11 points. For Mt. Vernon, Nicot Burnett was the lone player scoring in double figures as he finished with 19 points. The Wildcats have now lost 5-straight games to drop to 4-6 and will play at Southridge this Friday. The Vikings improved to 8-2 and will host Tecumseh on Friday.

North Posey Baseball posted on Facebook that University of Evansville baseball coach Wes Carroll will be speaking to the Vikings baseball program today at 4:15 PM. This talk is open to all the North Posey High School guys that aren’t in a winter sport. They say they are also opening it up to any cub baseball players as well. The meeting will take place in Coach Kirkman’s classroom.
The University of Southern Indiana is now offering non-diagnostic ultrasounds for pregnant women in their 2nd or 3rd trimester. The USI Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is making it possible for expectant mothers on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons through April 30th, 2024. Officials say their students will be perfecting their skills while guided by seasoned faculty. You can email usi1dms@usi.edu if you’d like to book a slot.
Posey County Council on Aging has announced that they will offer Free tax filing services this year. It will start on February 6th and be each Tuesday through April 9th starting at 10:00 AM. The location is 611 West 8th Street in Mt. Vernon. The volunteers preparing the returns are trained and certified by the IRS. Businesses and farms are not eligible for this service. In local high school sports this evening…North Posey Girls Basketball welcomes Evansville Christian at 6:00 PM. The Vikings are 6-10 on the season and will be going for a third-straight win.
There is no local college sporting events tonight…so we move on to the NBA…where the Indiana Pacers will play host to the Boston Celtics at 6:00 PM. Indiana is 20-15 on the year.
