The National Weather service confirms there were at least 3 tornadoes that passed through Southern Indiana in last week’s storms. Officials say an EF-1 tornado touched down in Posey County, another EF-1 through Darmstadt and an EF-2 in St Joseph just north of St. Phillip’s. They say the EF-2 was tracked northeast into Vanderburgh County crossing Highway 66 and into the St Joseph area. The Posey County tornado was on the ground in Blairsville for a little over a mile with winds reaching an estimated 100 miles per hour, causing severe and widespread damage.

 

The National Weather Service has posted four-day rainfall totals for the region. The period runs from Wednesday morning (April 2nd) at 10:00 AM through Sunday morning (April 6th) at 10:00 AM.  These totals are from National Weather Service spotters and official weather service measuring stations at locations such as Evansville Regional Airport. In Evansville, 6.78 inches of rain was registered and in Mt. Vernon, 6.95 inches was registered.

 

Heart of Poseyville, Grow Poseyville, and Town of Poseyville is hosting the third annual Pick Up Poseyville Event this Thursday. There will be 40-50 North Posey High School volunteer students there to help. The event will kick off at 8:00 AM at the Community Center where the volunteers will be assigned their duties from painting to debris removal to yard work. If you have a project in the Heart of Poseyville, especially along Main Street, that the volunteers can work on, you can message Heart of Poseyville.

 

This Saturday is the 7th annual Mt. Vernon Football Dinner and Auction. It will take place at the Posey County 4-H Center. Doors open at 5:30 PM and Dinner will be at 6:30 PM. The food will be provided by Hawg n’ Sauce. There will also be a live and silent auction. The event is for those who are 21 years of age and older. You can purchase tickets online. In local College Baseball on Sunday…USI Baseball won both games against Morehead State, 9-5 and 14-6. The Screaming Eagles have now won 5-straight games to improve to 15-15 overall and 6-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference. USI goes for the 3-game sweep this afternoon at home at 2:00 PM.

 

Evansville Baseball lost the rubber game of their 3-game set up in Chicago yesterday, 7-5. It’s the first conference series loss of the year for the Purple Aces as the Flames took 2-of-3 over the weekend. UE slides to 11-20 on the season and 5-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Aces play a non-conference game at home tomorrow night against Butler.

 

In Major League Baseball on Sunday…the St. Louis Cardinals got swept out of Boston by the Red Sox in the 3-game series as the Redbirds lost both games of the doubleheader yesterday, 5-4 and 18-7. The Cardinals are 4-5 on the year and will start a 3-game set in Pittsburgh tonight against the Pirates at 5:40 PM.

The Chicago Cubs saw their 5-game winning streak come to an end as they lost the series finale against the San Diego Padres at home, 8-7. The Cubs record sits at 7-5 and they welcome the Texas Rangers into town tonight at 6:40 PM for a 3-game series.

The Cincinnati Reds fell in their series finale in Milwaukee to the Brewers, 8-2. The Reds slide to 3-7 and now head out west for a 3-game set at the San Francisco Giants this evening at 8:45 PM.

 

From the NBA on Sunday…the Indiana Pacers collected an impressive win in Denver over the Nuggets, 125-120. Myles Turner led the way for Indiana with 24 points and Obi Toppin chimed in with 22 points. The Pacers have won 4-straight games as their record has soared to 47-31. Their next game is tomorrow night at home against the Washington Wizards.
