The State of Indiana has enacted a new law prohibiting the advertising of marijuana within its borders. The measure, added to legislation addressing Bureau of Motor Vehicles regulations, bans outdoor marijuana advertisements and flyers mailed to Indiana residents. While current advertising contracts will be allowed to run their course, no new contracts promoting marijuana will be permitted. Once existing agreements expire, all marijuana-related billboards and flyers directed at Indiana residents must be removed.

The Deaconess Clinic EXPRESS in Mount Vernon is moving to a new location. The current location at 813 East 4th Street is set to close after business hours on Friday, May 16th. The clinic will join Deaconess Clinic Urgent Care West on Evansville’s west side when it reopens on Monday, May 19th. The new location will offer expanded services in addition to adult and pediatric urgent care, including on-site X-ray, occupational medicine, and extended hours from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, seven days a week.

Avery's Place playground will celebrate its grand opening on May 18th at Hagemann Park in Mount Vernon. This new all-inclusive playground will open at 1:00 PM on the 18th. Festivities are planned to include ice cream, snacks, live music, and more. You can find more information about Avery's Place on Facebook.

The Posey County Fair Association is still selling raffle tickets for half a hog and processing, with the drawing set to take place on May 5th. Tickets are available at several area locations, including the Half Moon Saloon, KB Auto, First Bank, and United Fidelity Bank. You can also purchase a ticket by contacting a fair board member. Tickets are $10 each.

Taking a look at high school sports from over the weekend: Several events were canceled Friday due to rainfall, but Mount Vernon's track and field teams did compete at the Gibson Southern Invitational meet. The boys' team finished fifth out of eight schools. The 4x100-meter relay team finished second, breaking their own school record with a time of 42.99 seconds. The team consists of Grant Lippe, Hunter Pedrotti, Ryan Lilleston, and Colten Schneider. The girls' team finished third out of nine teams.

Looking at the high school sports schedule for today:
The Mount Vernon Wildcats boys' baseball team will be on the road at Vincennes Rivet. First pitch is set for 5:15 PM.
Girls' tennis will be on the road at Washington, with the meet starting at 5:30 PM.

The North Posey Vikings have a full schedule:

  • Boys' golf will take on Southridge at 4:30 PM on the road.

  • Girls' tennis will be at home, taking on Mater Dei at 4:30 PM.

  • Boys' JV baseball is on the road at Mater Dei at 5:00 PM.

  • Girls' softball is at home, taking on Heritage Hills at 5:00 PM.

  • Boys' baseball is at home against Evansville Christian at 5:00 PM.

  • The boys' and girls' track and field teams are hosting Pike Central at home at 5:00 PM.
