Tonight, is Week 4 of the High School Football season and Mt. Vernon Football travels to Washington for a 6:30 PM kickoff. The Wildcats are 2-1 on the season and will be going for their 3rd-straight win. The Hatchets are 1-2 on the year. Chris Cooke and Allen Buck will have you covered on the radio on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com. Their pregame show is set to start at 6:15 PM tonight.
North Posey Football is 3-0 on the year and they will try to stay undefeated this evening when they play host to Tell City at 7:00 PM. Vikings Football is ranked 7th in this week’s AP High School Football rankings for Class 2A. The Marksmen are 2-1 on the season. Catch the game on the radio on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com. Jordan Fisher and Chris Morlan will have the broadcast with the pregame show starting at 6:45 PM.
Other week 4 games across the tri-state tonight includes Bosse at Jasper, Central travels to Vincennes, Castle plays host to Harrison, Memorial is home against Mater Dei, and North is on the road to play Reitz, Tecumseh welcomes Forest Park, Boonville takes on North Knox at home, Pike Central heads to Southridge, and Princeton is at North Daviess. All those games kick off at 6:30 PM. There are two other games that get underway at 7:00 PM tonight and that is Gibson Southern playing in Kentucky against South Warren and Heritage Hills paying a visit to South Spencer.
The Mt. Vernon River Days got underway this morning with an opening ceremony at 11:00 AM. Right now, free inflatables provided by Old National Bank are open until 7:00 PM tonight. The “Smoke on the Ohio” BBQ competition is also in progress right now and will continue until 8:00 PM this evening. Coming up tonight at 6:00 PM will be the Little Miss and Mr. River Days Pageant and then the evening will end with Fireworks at 9:00 PM. The Mt. Vernon River Days continue into Saturday as well. Tomorrow will be an event filled day from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM. Saturday’s events start with the 5K run in the courthouse area at 8:00 AM.
The Saint Wendel Social is tomorrow and Sunday. The Saturday evening meal is pulled pork and will be served from 5:00 PM until 7:30 PM. Sunday’s meal is fried chicken and will be served from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM in Wendel Hall. A drive-thru is available for the Sunday Chicken Dinner, starting at the cemetery gates on Boonville New Harmony Road and going down the hill following behind the school with pick up just before exiting on County Line Road. Serving begins at 11:00 AM on Sunday.

University of Evansville has a new program, the first of its kind in the region. UE will now be offering a Ph.D. in Health Professions Education. Officials say the goal is to hopefully ease the shortage of healthcare professionals nationwide. This will help clinicians develop the skills to be effective educators. This program aims to benefit many areas, like nursing, doctors, physical therapy, athletic training, occupational therapy and more. Those in this Ph.D. program will need 44 online credit hours, with options to meet in-person with instructors.
Meal plans and on-campus housing will cost more for students at the University of Southern Indiana. The USI board of trustees approved the new rates for the next school year. Meal plans will increase by $125 per semester. On-campus housing rates will increase by $75 a semester. Students living on campus and using a standard meal plan will get a $50 credit in munch money.
Sports From Last Night:
- Mt. Vernon Volleyball (7-5) was able to pull out a road win in 5-sets at Evansville Christian last night. The Wildcats won the final set, 15-11.
- Mt. Vernon Boys Soccer (5-3) earned a road win at Gibson Southern, 3-2.
- North Posey Volleyball (13-3) lost at home last to Memorial in 4-sets.
- Evansville Women’s Soccer (0-3-3) and Western Kentucky finished in a 0-0 tie last night on the University of Evansville’s campus.
- USI Women’s Soccer (1-5-1) is no longer winless on the season as they beat Austin Peay at home on campus, 2-0.
- The St. Louis Cardinals (61-79) had their 3-game winning streak snapped last night in Atlanta as the fell to the Braves, 8-5 and was unable to complete the 3-game sweep.
- The Chicago Cubs (76-65) got beat in the series opener of a 4-game set at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks, 6-2.
