North Posey Football is home tonight as they play host to Forest Park at 6:30 PM. It is also Homecoming night for the Vikings. North Posey High School is encouraging the community to come and support all the athletic teams for the first annual Viking Fest. Teams will have booths set up with various items for sale. All proceeds will benefit each individual program. Booths open at 5:00 PM this evening. The Homecoming Parade is set for 5:30 PM, Homecoming Ceremony will be at 6:10 PM, and kickoff at 6:30 PM. If you can’t make it to the game, Jordan Fisher and Chris Morlan will have the radio broadcast on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com. The Vikings are 5-1 on the year and the Rangers come into tonight with a 4-2 record.
Mt. Vernon Football is home this evening against Heritage Hills at 7:00 PM. Before the game, Mt. Vernon is having an All-In Community Partner Tailgate. They encourage you to head to Memorial Field early tonight before the Wildcats kick off against the Patriots. The tailgate will begin at 5:15 PM. You will have the chance to interact with 32 Posey County businesses and organizations. It will also be a chance to enjoy fun activities, receive promotional giveaways and learn about services and career opportunities. Grab a raffle check-in sheet at the All-In Friday booth and get initials from booths to enter a swag raffle which will be awarded between the third and fourth quarters of the game. Other Week 7 games across the Tri-State include quite a few games at 6:30 PM. Those games include…Castle at Jasper, Central welcomes Harrison, Mater Dei is at Bosse, Memorial travels to Reitz, North plays host to Vincennes, Washington entertains Gibson Southern, Pike Central heads to Tell City, Southridge at South Spencer, and Tecumseh journeys to Springs Valley. Also tonight at 7:00 PM, Princeton battles Boonville at home.
In a press release, the Mount Vernon Police Department say they have added three more arrests to their efforts to eliminate illegal drugs in the community. Police officials say that one arrest happened at a traffic stop at the intersection of Lawrence Drive and Grenada after an officer noticed the vehicle displaying illegal lighting. Police say the driver, 54-year-old John Hanmore, had a suspended license. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of methamphetamine and a used glass pipe. Hanmore was arrested and taken to the Posey County Jail. He is facing charges of possession of methamphetamine and paraphernalia.
Authorities also say that an off-duty officer reported an individual wandering in a cornfield near 4th Street and Country Club Road on Wednesday. Police say responding officers found 21-year-old Kordell Stewart, who they say had a strong smell of marijuana and admitted to using it. A search of Stewart found a used glass pipe along with a package containing methamphetamine. Stewart was arrested and lodged in the Posey County Jail on charges of possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.
Finally, authorities say that on Wednesday, an officer identified an individual in a vehicle who was known to police as wanted on a possession of methamphetamine warrant out of Posey County. During a traffic stop, police say the officer noticed the smell of marijuana and placed the driver, LaPatrick Jones under arrest. A search of the vehicle revealed marijuana as well as a drug pipe. Jones was taken to the Posey County Jail. In addition to the warrant, Jones faces charges of possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.

- Evansville Volleyball travels to Southern Illinois at 6:00 PM.
- USI Volleyball plays at Tennessee Tech at 6:00 PM.
- The St. Louis Cardinals (69-90) begin their final 3-game series of the year at home against the Cincinnati Reds (81-78) at 7:15 PM.
- The Chicago Cubs (82-77) look to avoid a 4th-straight loss as they start a 3-game set at the Milwaukee Brewers at 7:10 PM.
- As we head into the final weekend of the regular season in Major League Baseball, the Chicago Cubs are a half game back of the Marlins for the final playoff spot in the National League. The Reds are a game and a half back of the Marlins. Miami plays their final 3-games in Pittsburgh against the Pirates this weekend. The Marlins had their game suspended in the 9th inning due to rain last night in New York, leading the Mets 2-1 in the 9th inning. If needed for playoff implications, the Marlins will have to go back to New York on Monday to finish the game against the Mets.
Sports From Thursday:
- Mt. Vernon Volleyball (10-11) lost in straight sets at home against Mater Dei.
- North Posey Boys Tennis (12-9) defeated Reitz 3-2 in the Sectional Semi-Final last night. The Vikings will play Mater Dei in the Sectional Championship Saturday morning at 10:00 AM at Mt. Vernon High School.
- USI Men’s Soccer (1-7) lost at home to SIU Edwardsville, 6-0.
- Evansville Women’s Soccer (0-3-7, 0-0-4) went on the road and battled Southern Illinois to a 1-1 tie.
- The St. Louis Cardinals (69-90) lost the finale in Milwaukee to the Brewers, 3-0. Milwaukee won 2-of-3 in the series. The Cardinals return home tonight at 7:15 PM for the final 3-game series of the season against the Cincinnati Reds (81-78).
- The Chicago Cubs (82-77) got swept in Atlanta by the Braves, 5-3. Chicago now heads to Milwaukee to face the Brewers for the final 3 games of the regular season. Tonight’s first pitch is 7:10 PM.
- Week 4 of the NFL kicked off last night with Thursday Night Football where the Detroit Lions went to Green Bay and took care of the Packers, 34-20. The Lions are 3-1 and the Packers fall to 2-2.
