Week 5 of the high school football regular season is tonight, and the 3-1 Mt. Vernon Wildcats will try to make it 4-straight wins as they play at Forest Park at 6:30 PM. The Rangers also have a 3-1 record. Chris Cooke and Allen Buck will have the radio broadcast this evening on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com.

The 4-0 North Posey Vikings welcome the Heritage Hills Patriots tonight for a big PAC battle at 7:00 PM. The Patriots sit at 3-1 on the season. Jordan Fisher and Chris Morlan will have you covered on the radio on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com.

The Mt. Vernon Police Department sent out a congratulations post to Chief Justin Rutledge on being sworn in on Thursday as the new Police Chief of MVPD. Justin’s background includes his service as Director of Community Corrections for 4.5 years and 11 years of prior experience with the Henderson Police Department and Posey County Sheriff’s Office. The Mt. Vernon Police Department says Chief Rutledge brings valuable experience and leadership to the department.

 

University of Southern Indiana school officials announced that Indiana students will be able to submit their undergraduate admission applications for free from September 22nd-27th. According to a press release, this is in conjunction will the College GO! campaign sponsored by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. School officials say students should apply by midnight on September 27th to ensure the fee is waived. They say in addition to consideration for acceptance, applicants will also receive consideration for merit-based scholarships.

 

Sports: 

Last night in local high school sports…Mt. Vernon Volleyball was able to pull out a win at home against Princeton in 5-sets. The Wildcats won the 5th set, 15-9 to improve to 3-10 on the year. Mt. Vernon Girls Soccer lost at Pike Central, 4-0…The Lady Wildcats are now 6-7 overall…Wildcats Girls Golf lost their match at Reitz. Mt. Vernon shot a team score of 207, but Reitz finished with an overall score of 196. 

North Posey Girls Soccer took care of Southridge on the road, 3-0…The Lady Vikings run their record to 5-4…Vikings Boys Tennis got beat home by Forest Park, 4-1. North Posey is now 10-5 overall and 7-3 in the PAC.

 

The St. Louis Cardinals couldn’t complete the 4-game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates at home as the Bucco’s pulled out a 3-2 win. The Cardinals slip to 77-76 and start a 3-game series at home against the Cleveland Guardians tonight at 7:15 PM.

The Chicago Cubs defeated the Washington Nationals at home last night, 7-6 to begin their 4-game set. Chicago is now 78-75. Game 2 of that series is today at 1:20 PM.

The Cincinnati Reds got walloped by the Atlanta Braves in Cincy, 15-3. The Reds fall to 74-80 overall and begin a 3-game weekend set with the Pittsburgh Pirates at home at 5:40 PM.
