The West Side Nut Club Fall Festival gets underway this Sunday with Family Day, but yesterday the Half Pot sales began at noon. The was a line of cars full of people ready to buy their tickets as the half pot is a staple for the Fall Festival. Nut Club members say it’s the largest half pot in America. Last year, it broke $1.8 million, this year there’s some speculation that it might reach $2 million. Every year, half of the money is given to the winner and half is donated by the Nut Club. You must be 18 years or older to buy a half pot ticket. You can buy a ticket at the drive-through booth up until Sunday, after that you’ll have to buy them on West Franklin Street.

Reports are that the Cincinnati Reds will hire Terry Francona to be their next manager. An official announcement is expected in the coming days. The Reds fired manager David Bell with a week remaining in the regular season. Francona, who is 65 years old, did not manage this season after spending the previous 11 years with the Cleveland Guardians. He cited health issues when he stepped down last year. Francona does have ties to the Reds, having played 102 games for the team in 1987. He played parts of 10 big-league seasons from 1980-91 before beginning his coaching career in the minors. Francona previously managed the Philadelphia Phillies (1997-2000), Boston Red Sox (2004-2011), and Guardians (2013-23). He was at the helm for Boston's 2004 and 2007 World Series titles. The Reds went 77-85 this season. They have not been to the postseason since 2020 and have not been to the playoffs in a full 162-game season since 2013.
