As temperatures get colder, CenterPoint Energy officials say you can expect to pay more when heating your home this winter. It comes as the cost of natural gas is projected to increase. To help curb these costs CenterPoint Energy is encouraging customers in its southern Indiana natural gas territory to prepare for that increase. According to a press release, this year’s natural gas costs are projected to increase over last year’s heating season as the demand for natural gas continues to grow. CenterPoint Energy officials say customers can expect to pay on average $129 a month over the five-month period from November to March. There are several assistance programs that you can use to lower those costs, including the Energy Assistance Program, and the Universal Service Program. As a reminder, CenterPoint does not make any profit from the overall cost of natural gas; it is passed on to customers at cost. They are also not allowed to markup from the purchase and sale of natural gas.
