Some members of the public have noticed that the water tower on the west end of Mount Vernon has been overflowing for an extended period. Chuck Gray, the superintendent of the Mount Vernon Utilities says that it is due to damage from a lightning strike. Lightning struck the booster station that fills the tower. According to Mr. Gray, none of the controls are presently working. The technician that services the special control system is presently out of the country and that is the hold-up for the repairs. Fortunately, the system failed in the on position which means the tower is constantly being filled rather than the alternate option of the water tower being completely empty which would affect all customers west of Parke Street in Mount Vernon.
