The Posey County Fair has only two days remaining as tonight is another busy evening of events. A meal will be available in the Community Center from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Tonight, you have the option of either a minute steak meal or a ham meal. Sides will be provided, along with a dessert and drink. Adult meals are 15 dollars and kid’s meals are 8 dollars.

At 6:00 PM tonight the Corn Hole Tournament begins as well as local music. Then at 7:00 PM it’s the Derby Car Scrapper Racing in the main arena. Also, at 7:00 PM it’s the ITPA Pro-Series Tractor Pulls at the Keck Gonnerman Track.

The cost to get into the Posey County Fair is 8 dollars per-person and kids 10 years of age and under get in for free. Free carnival rides run from 5:00 PM until 10:00 PM and the free kids zone is open from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Tomorrow night is the final evening for the fair and there will be the Demolition Derby in the main arena Saturday at 7:00 PM.

 

Posey County Sheriff’s Office officials say a man was arrested Wednesday on child molesting charges. According to a press release, deputies received a call just before 10 p.m. on Tuesday for an alleged sex offense involving a juvenile. The victim’s mother contacted EPD and informed them of the sex crime. It was discovered during the investigation that the offense took place in Posey County. The juvenile was taken to Holly’s House for a forensic interview Wednesday, where she told officials about the man who was allegedly molesting her. Detectives conducted additional interviews, which gained probable cause to arrest 39-year-old Jacob Husk of Mt. Vernon. Husk was arrested and transported to the Posey County Jail for child molesting. He is currently being held without bond.

 

The man who pled guilty in his double murder trial in May has been sentenced. Authorities say Austin Kusturin shot and killed John and Elizabeth Hall inside their Mount Vernon home in November 2021. Prosecutors say on day two of his trial, Kusturin pleaded guilty to all 11 charges. Kusturin was sentenced to 170 years in prison, which was the maximum sentence.

 

An Elberfeld man has been ordered to spend the next decade and a half in prison. The Posey County Prosecutor Thomas Clowers says 30-year-old Cody Smith was sentenced to 15 years on several charges, including dealing meth. He says Smith pleaded guilty and admitted to selling meth to an undercover informant, twice. Smith was arrested last year in May as part of “Operation Last Dance.” 20 people were arrested during a raid on May 25th. Smith wasn’t found during the initial raid, but he was caught a few days later. He’s been in the Posey County Jail ever since.

 

The Knights of St. John 57th Annual Bierstube got underway last night and continues through tomorrow evening. JB and the Tied and True will be performing live music tonight from 9:00 PM until 1:00 AM. Tomorrow, it’s Kenna Elpers with Jagger Whitaker performing from 9:00 PM until 1:00 AM. The Beer Garden opens both tonight and tomorrow night at 6:00 PM. They encourage you to come celebrate 100 years of service and charity to the community for the Knights of St. John #282. There is dine-in and drive-through food available this evening and tomorrow evening starting at 5:00 PM. Knights of St. John is located on Winery Road in Wadesville.

 

The Major League Baseball All-Star Break is over as teams get back to playing games tonight. The St. Louis Cardinals pick back up in Atlanta against the Braves at 6:20 PM. The Cardinals are 50-46 on the season and currently sit in 2nd place in the Central Division. They are 4.5 games behind the 1st place Milwaukee Brewers. St. Louis does own the second of three wild card slots in the National League.

The Chicago Cubs are home today against the Arizona D-Backs at 1:20 PM. The Cubs are 47-51 on the year. Chicago is 8.5 games behind the Brewers for first place in the Central Division and sits 3.5 games back of a wild card slot.

The Cincinnati Reds take on the Nationals in Washington at 5:45 PM. The Reds have a record of 47-50. They are 8.0 games out of first place in the division and only 3.0 games back of a wild card spot.
