A Mount Vernon man will serve prison time after being convicted of dealing meth in Posey County. According to a release, 30-year-old James See was sentenced to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to dealing meth. Officials say back in December of 2021, See delivered meth to an undercover police informant. He was arrested on April 14, 2022, as a result of an undercover drug investigation conducted by the Posey County Drug Task Force which began in August 2021. See is now classified as a habitual offender under Indiana law with multiple prior felony convictions, including burglary, receiving stolen property and theft.
The University of Southern Indiana has approved a new operating budget. USI’s Board of Trustees approved a $127.3 million operating budget for the 2023-24 fiscal year. That’s up from nearly $119 million last year. Undergraduate students living in Indiana will pay just short of $300 per credit hour this fall, compared to about $280 per credit hour last school year. Out-of-state undergraduates will pay about $727 per credit hour compared to about $682 last year. Graduate student fees also rose. The board approved miscellaneous fees for 2023-24, including the athletics fee which doubled from $60 to $120 after the university moved from the NCAA’s Division Two to Division One. The trustees approved financial aid for the 2023-24 academic year and received an update on current campus construction projects during yesterday’s meeting. USI’s income is derived from two primary sources: tuition and fees, and state appropriations.

A new paramedic program will begin serving people in Posey County beginning Monday. Officials say it’s aimed at cutting down on trips to the hospital and providing in-home care for non-emergency calls. They say a trip to the hospital isn’t needed for all medical situations. Paramedic Amy Woodley is in charge of the new program. She says they will also follow up with patients who are released from the hospital. This program is fairly new to Indiana. Scott Township in Vanderburgh County began theirs in January.
Crews were on the Lloyd Expressway on the west side of Evansville yesterday. It was preparation for the Lloyd4U project. Crews were near the Barker exit doing geotechnical work in preparation for the sound barrier that will be installed in that section. That work was completed Wednesday, so traffic is moving normally now. The Lloyd4U Project is made up of 17 smaller projects, stretching from the Posey to the Warrick County lines. They include replacing pavement and bridges, as well as improving intersections and widening the road in places. Project officials say the state is investing more than $150 million in the work, which they expect to take about four years. Phase 1 construction is expected to start next spring.
