A Mount Vernon man, 66-year-old Leo Muller will be laid to rest today after he was killed in an accident. It happened on Monday, shortly before 10:00 AM. It was at the intersection of Raben and Brown Slagle Road. Deputies say the co-worker got inside an excavator, while Muller stayed outside. They say the co-worker’s jacket got caught on a lever, causing the arm of the excavator to hit Muller and knock him into some water. Muller died at the scene. “It was a tragic, freak accident,” deputies said. According to his obituary, Muller will be laid to rest today. His service will be at the Denning Family Funeral Home.
It was a tough night for both USI Women’s and Men’s Basketball at Tennessee Tech. In the first game of the evening, USI Women’s Basketball got beat, 83-79. Triniti Ralston scored 25 points and Vanessa Shafford added 23 points and 12 rebounds in the loss. The Lady Eagles are now 11-4 on the season and 3-1 in the OVC.
The night cap saw USI Men’s Basketball get tripped up by Tennessee Tech, 68-64. Stephen Olowoniyi had a double-double in the loss, 26 points and 13 rebounds. Damoni Harrison chimed in with 20 points and 8 rebounds. It’s now 3-straight losses for the Screaming Eagles as they fall to 6-8 on the year and 1-3 in the conference.
Evansville Women’s Basketball fell at Bradley Thursday night, 45-42. Maggie Hartwig scored 16 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in the loss. Camryn Runner also scored in double figures with 10 points. Evansville Women’s Basketball has now dropped 3 games in a row. They slip to 4-9 overall and 0-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
IU Men’s Basketball took care of business at home last night as they defeated Rutgers, 84-74. Myles Rice led the way for the Hoosiers with 21 points and Oumar Ballo collected a double-double off the bench with 17 points and 12 rebounds. IU moves to 11-3 on the season and 2-1 in the Big 10.
20th ranked Purdue easily handled Minnesota on the road, 81-61. Fletcher Loyer paced the Boilermakers with 24 points and Braden Smith added 20 points while tugging down 10 rebounds. Purdue is 10-4 and 2-1 in conference play.
In the NBA Thursday night…the Indiana Pacers beat the Heat in Miami, 128-115. Tyrese Haliburton was impressive for Indiana with 33 points and 15 assists. The Pacers improve to 17-18 on the year.
