Centerpoint energy and contractor crews have been busy and still are cleaning up the electrical system from Sunday's ice fall. Centerpoint reported that at the peak, nearly 60,000 customers were without power. As of late Thursday night, that number is now reported as being down to under 800 customers with crews still working to restore everybody. Some customers have reported that they have received notice that their power has been restored but they are still without power. If you are a customer still without power, please contact Centerpoint again and let them know of the discrepancy by calling 1-800-227-1376. With the new snowfall, there is some concern of new outages due to the extra weight of the snow further weighing down already stressed trees.

The Poseyville Police Department is warning the public of a new brushing scam. A recent scam has been showing up in many states in which someone receives an unexpected gift or item not ordered in the mail from a place like Amazon or another company. The gift will have the recipient’s address, but not include the sender's information or be from a known retailer. When the recipient opens the package, there is a QR code to scan to find out who sent the gift. Once the code is scanned, they say that all the information from that phone will be sent to scammers. They receive all access to the phone. All personal and financial information is accessible to the scammers and often the victim's bank accounts are drained. The gift can be kept or thrown away, but they say do not scan QR code for any reason. According to officials, QR code scams are nothing new and have been showing up in all kinds of places. Inform your family members about the scam and avoid scanning any unknown QR codes included in the package.
