Last night in local High School Boys Basketball…the North Posey Vikings took care of Pike Central at home, 66-49. The Vikings run their record to 13-3 on the year and will be back in action on Tuesday at home against Mt. Carmel.

Mt. Vernon Boys Basketball failed to win a 3rd-straight game last night as they got beat at Princeton, 62-33. The Wildcats slip to 10-8 on the year and will be off until Tuesday night when they play host to Memorial.

 

Coming up tonight…Girls Sectional Basketball continues, as it’s the Semifinal Round of Sectionals. Mt. Vernon after beating Bosse on Tuesday, will now face Boonville this evening at 6:00 PM for a chance to play in the championship game. This is the Class 3A Sectional 32 at Gibson Southern High School. You will be able to hear tonight’s game on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com. Chris Cooke and Allen Buck will have the radio call.

 

United Way of Posey County posted on Facebook that they are selling Hawg n’ Sauce goodies for a fundraiser. Pick-up date and time is February 16th from 9:00 AM until Noon. The United Way of Posey County gets 40% back, so it’s a chance to help them and enjoy some great food at the same time. They encourage you to let them know your selection soon if interested.

 

Posey County Council on Aging will be offering Free tax filing services this year. It will start next Tuesday, February 6th and be each Tuesday through April 9th starting at 10:00 AM. The location is 611 West 8th Street in Mt. Vernon. The volunteers preparing the returns are trained and certified by the IRS. Businesses and farms are not eligible for this service. In local college sports last night…USI Men’s Basketball snapped a 5-game losing streak as they earned a 74-71 win at Tennessee Tech. Jeremiah Hernandez paced the Screaming Eagles with 19 points and AJ Smith had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. USI improves 6-16 overall and 3-6 in the OVC. They will be at Tennessee State at 3:30 PM.

USI Women’s Basketball won a 10th-straight game last night at Tennessee Tech, 81-72. Vanessa Shafford collected a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. The Screaming Eagles are 14-5 on the year and 9-0 in the OVC. They also play at Tennessee State on Saturday at 1:00 PM.

From the NBA last night…the Indiana Pacers got tripped up in New York by the Knicks, 109-105. The Pacers slip to 27-22 and will return home tonight to square off against the Sacramento Kings at 6:30 PM.
