The High School Football regular season kicks off tonight and it’s the Posey County Battle to start the year. Mt. Vernon will play at North Posey at 7:00 PM. You can hear the Wildcats broadcast with Chris Cooke and Allen Buck on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com. The Vikings broadcast with Jordan Fisher and Chris Morlan can be found on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com.

Saint Wendel Catholic Church is inviting the community to the 125th Anniversary Celebration of the Dedication of Holy Angels Catholic Church tomorrow. The say mass will start at 4:00 PM and will be followed by a reception and music in the Holy Angels Community Center.
Next Monday through Thursday Mt. Vernon is having a swim clinic at the Mt. Vernon Junior High School pool. This is for all Mt. Vernon kids that are 5 years of age and older that are interested in swimming. The clinic will be from 5:00 PM until 6:15 PM each of the four nights. Each swimmer is asked to bring their own swimsuit, towel, and goggles. You can register online. The Mt. Vernon Junior High School Facebook page has a post with a QR code.
Coming up next Wednesday evening at the Poseyville Community Center is the annual Town Hall Meeting. It will start at 6:00 PM. It’s a chance for the community to engage in meaningful discussions about economic development, share ideas to help shape the town’s future, and collaborate with fellow community members, leaders, and experts. This is free and open to the public. The Poseyville Community Center is located at 60 North Church Steet in Poseyville.
Sports:
Last night in local high school sports…North Posey Volleyball lost in 4 sets at Mater Dei. Vikings Volleyball is now 1-1 on the year. North Posey Boys Tennis lost at home against Evansville Christian, 3-2. The Vikings are now 1-1 on the young season.
Mt. Vernon Girls Soccer went on the road and picked up a 3-2 victory at Harrison. It’s the first win of the year for the Wildcats as they improve to 1-2. Mt. Vernon Boys Soccer also earned a win last night at home over South Spencer, 2-1. They now have a record of 1-1.
The St. Louis Cardinals earned a series win at home over the Milwaukee Brewers as they took the finale of the 3-game set yesterday, 3-0. The Cardinals are now just a game below .500 on the year at 63-64. They go for a 3rd-straight win tonight as they start a 3-game weekend series in Minnesota against the Twins at 7:10 PM.
The Chicago Cubs walloped the Detroit Tigers in their series finale in Chicago, 10-2. The Cubs took 2-of-3 in the series to run their record to 63-65. Chicago travels to Miami this evening at 6:10 PM to take on the Marlins.
The Cincinnati Reds got blanked in the opener of a 4-game set in Pittsburgh by the Pirates, 7-0. Cincy slips to 62-66. Game 2 of the series is tonight at 5:40 PM.
The final week of the NFL preseason got underway last night and the Indianapolis Colts beat the Bengals in Cincinnati, 27-14. Colts Quarterback Anthony Richardson went 8-for-14 passing for 86 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception, Bengals Quarterback Joe Borrow did not play in the game. Indy went 2-1 in the preseason and Cincy went 0-3.
The other NFL preseason game played Thursday night was the Chicago Bears cruising past the Chiefs in Kansas City, 34-21. The Bears finished the preseason a perfect 4-0 and the Chiefs went 0-3.
