Tonight, High School Football kicks off across the Tri-State and it’s a Posey County battle to start the regular season. This evening, Mt. Vernon will play host to North Posey at 7:00 PM. You will be able to hear the Mt. Vernon broadcast with Chris Cooke and Allen Buck on 106.7 FM WMVI. The North Posey Broadcast with Jordan Fisher and Chris Morlan can be found on 98.9 FM WPIW. You can also listen to either broadcast online at poseycountyradio.com.
Other games across the Tri-State includes a large batch of games at 6:30 PM…Bosse at Vincennes…Central heads to Mater Dei…North is on the road at Castle…Harrison welcomes Reitz…Memorial plays host to Jasper…Boonville hosts Paoli…Forest Park battles Princeton…Southridge journeys to Heritage Hills…then at 7:00…South Spencer welcomes Tecumseh…and Tell City is home against Perry Central.
It will be a busy Saturday for both Mt. Vernon and North Posey fall sports teams. Tomorrow, Mt. Vernon Cross Country runs at the Boonville Invite at 8:00 AM…Boys Tennis heads to Wood Memorial at 9:00 AM…and both the Girls and Boys Soccer teams are home against Forest Park. The Girls match is at 12:00 PM and the Boys match follows around 2:00 PM.
North Posey Cross Country is also running at the Boonville Invite tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM…Vikings Girls Soccer plays host to Evansville Christian at 10:30 AM…Boys Soccer is also home taking on Evansville Christian at 12:30 PM…and North Posey Volleyball welcomes Barr-Reeve as the JV match will start at 10:30 AM and the Varsity match will follow around 12:00 PM.
The MSD of North Posey says they are looking to grow their pool of licensed school bus drivers. The next training class hosted at North Posey High School starts on August 30th. Call Mrs. Englert at the Bus Garage today to get signed up. The number to call is 812-874-8805. The full-time starting wage is $82.25 per-day plus route multiplier, and you will be eligible for Health Insurance and access to the North Posey Clinic. The training is free, and no experience is necessary.
United Fidelity Bank’s 14th annual Community Day is tomorrow. The event will take place at the Mt. Vernon Banking Center located at 500 East Fourth Street in Mt. Vernon from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM. You can stop by and enjoy free hotdogs, popcorn, Snow Cones, and drinks. There will also be drawings for IU football tickets, Brew Fest tickets, Western Hills Country Club golf passes, plus various other great prizes! Inflatables will be set up for the kids to enjoy. In addition, Musician Nick Smith, the Mt. Vernon High School Cheerleaders, and the WolfGang Orchestra Jazz Band will be on hand to provide additional entertainment. More than 35 local civic and community organizations will be available. Community Day is free of charge, including food and refreshments courtesy of United Fidelity Bank and McKim’s IGA.
Yesterday, Tri-State college students started moving back into their dorm at the University of Evansville. Today is also the first day of orientation for those incoming freshmen. From Saturday to Tuesday first year and all international students will participate in Welcome Week. The Welcome Week program includes informational sessions, food, volunteer opportunities and entertainment focused on building new relationships with other incoming students and getting acquainted with the campus. Move-in continues today, while classes will begin at UE this coming Wednesday. At USI, students are also moving back into their dorm and will begin classes this coming Monday.

- The St. Louis Cardinals (54-68) play game 2 of their 4-game set at home against the New York Mets at 7:15 PM. Due to High School Football, the Cardinals game will not be on 106.7 FM WMVI this evening.
- The Cincinnati Reds (63-59) start a 3-game weekend series at home against the Toronto Blue Jays at 5:40 PM.
