Keller Schroeder is thrilled to announce a groundbreaking partnership with the MSD of Mt. Vernon to establish the Keller Schroeder Cybersecurity Academy at Mt. Vernon High School. This initiative is made possible through a $125,000 Perkins Education Readiness Grant awarded by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. The academy is designed to provide students with the skills, experience, and industry exposure necessary to thrive in the rapidly growing field of cybersecurity. Over the past year, Keller Schroeder has collaborated closely with the MSD of Mt. Vernon to develop this innovative program, which aims to prepare students for high-demand, high-paying careers in cybersecurity. The three-year Next Level Program of Study (NLPS) in Cybersecurity will include:

- Year 1: Principles of Computing (Dual Credit: SDEV 120 – Computing Logic, 3 credits)

- Year 2: Cybersecurity Fundamentals (Dual Credit: ITSP 132 & 134 – IT Support Essentials I & II, 4 credits total)

- Year 3: Cybersecurity Capstone (Dual Credit: SVAD III – Linux Virtualization Technology Fundamentals, 3 credits)

Students enrolled in the program will receive dual credit and industry certifications while working closely with instructors who are active industry professionals. The cybersecurity lab, funded by the grant, will include advanced simulation tools and virtual environments that mirror real-world IT and cybersecurity scenarios.

Keller Schroeder’s involvement in the Cybersecurity Academy extends far beyond a name on the door. The company will:

- Offer mentorship and classroom engagement

- Help shape the curriculum to match industry needs

- Provide internship opportunities for senior-year students

- Assist in identifying future career pathways in cybersecurity

 

Mt. Vernon High School has announced that their Free Physical Night will be on Wednesday, May 14th at 5:00 PM in the Mt. Vernon High School Athletic Foyer. It’s for those who want to participate in athletics during the 2025-2026 school year and are currently in 6th-11th grade.

 

North Posey High School will be looking for a new Boys Varsity Basketball Coach, as Rusty Seymour announced on Wednesday that he is stepping down. Coach Seymour spent 5 years at North Posey as the Boys Varsity Head Coach and compiled a 71-44 record. 

 

Deaconess Clinic EXPRESS Mt. Vernon is moving to a new location. The current location at 813 East 4th Street in Mt. Vernon will close after business hours on Friday, May 16th, and join Deaconess Clinic Urgent Care West. This will be on Evansville’s westside when they re-open on Monday, May 19th. This new location will offer expanded services in addition to adult and pediatric urgent care services, including on-site X-ray, occupational medicine and extended hours of 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM seven days a week.

 

Last night North Posey Baseball picked up a win at home over Southridge, 4-1. Vikings Baseball improves to 8-4.

Mt. Vernon Baseball lost at Heritage Hills, 14-4 in 5 innings. Wildcats Baseball now has a record of 1-9.

This evening North Posey Softball plays at Central at 5:00 PM. Vikings Softball is 7-4 on the year.

 

Tonight in local College Sports…USI Baseball begins a 3-game weekend series at home against Eastern Illinois at 4:00 PM. The Screaming Eagles are in 5th place in the Ohio Valley Conference with an 8-7 OVC record.

Evansville Baseball is on the road for a 3-game weekend set at Missouri State. That series starts this evening at 6:30 PM. The Purple Aces are in 6th place in the Missouri Valley Conference with a 7-8 MVC record.

 

From Major League Baseball on Thursday…the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, and Cincinnati Reds all had the day off.

The Cardinals begin a 3-game series at home tonight against the Milwaukee Brewers at 7:15 PM. The Redbirds are coming off a 1-6 road-trip and sit at 10-15 on the season.

The Chicago Cubs start a 3-game series at home today with the Philadelphia Phillies at 1:20 PM. The Cubs are going for their 3rd-straight win as they are 16-10 on the year.

The Cincinnati Reds play game 1 of their 3-game set in Colorado against the Rockies at 7:40 PM. The Reds have a record of 12-13.

 

In the NBA Playoffs…the Indiana Pacers play Game 3 of their First Round Series at the Milwaukee Bucks tonight at 7:00 PM. The Pacers lead the Best-of-Seven Series, 2-0 after winning both Game 1 and Game 2 in Indianapolis.
