Posey County Emergency Management says that Posey County is under a Local Emergency Disaster Declaration, due to excessive rain and severe river flooding that has caused many state, local, and county roads to be closed because of high water and potential damage to these roadways. This Declaration went into effect on Tuesday and will remain in effect until the water recedes.

 

AT&T is contributing $25,000 to SWIRCA & More to support digital literacy training for older adults in Posey County, Indiana. The funding will support five training sessions from April through August, aimed at helping seniors build essential technology skills.

The scheduled topics are:

  • April 10th: Basic Computer Operations
  • May 8th: Social Media and Online Communications
  • June 12th: Cell Phones, iPads, and Smart Devices
  • July 10th: Email and Web Browsing
  • August 14th: Online Safety and Netiquette

This initiative is part of AT&T’s broader commitment to bridge the digital divide and help 25 million people connect to high-speed internet by 2030.

 

Mt. Vernon Junior High School is putting on a production of Matilda Jr. The Musical this weekend. It will be at the Mt. Vernon High School Performing Arts Center tonight at 7:00 PM and on Saturday at 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Tickets are 7 dollars.

 

Knights of St. John is having a Fish Fry this evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. There will be Fried Fish, Potato Salad, Cole Slaw, Baked Beans, Macaroni and Cheese, Corn Bread, Grilled Cheese, and Drinks. Dine In or Drive Thru options will be available. Vanderburgh County Commissioners say Burdette Park and the surrounding areas are experiencing severe flooding. They say the river is expected to crest at around 48 feet, which is the highest it’s been since 1945. The main entrance and exit at Burdette Park is now closed because of high water. Officials say Nurrenbern Road is expected to become impassable soon. Starting today, Burdette Park will be closed to the public until further notice, including all scheduled events.

 

Tonight, in local high school sports, North Posey Softball is home against Tell City at 5:30 PM.

Mt. Vernon Baseball travels to Boonville for a 5:30 PM first pitch.

 

In local college sports this evening, USI Baseball begins a 3-game conference series at Tennessee Tech at 6:00 PM. The Screaming Eagles have won 6 of their last 7 games. They are 16-16 overall and 7-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference. Right now, USI Baseball is in first place by one game in the OVC.

Evansville Baseball also hits the road tonight to begin a 3-game conference set at Illinois State at 5:00 PM. The Purple Aces sit at 11-21 on the year and 5-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference. UE is tied for 4th place in the MVC.

           

Checking on Major League Baseball action, the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, and Cincinnati Reds were all off yesterday. The Cardinals start a 3-game series at home tonight as they take on the Philadelphia Phillies at 7:15 PM. The Cubs are in Los Angeles to battle the Dodgers in a 3-game set at 9:10 PM. The Reds welcome the Pittsburgh Pirates for the first of a 3-game series at 5:40 PM.

 

Last night, in the NBA…the Indiana Pacers won their 6th-straight game as they hung on for a 114-112 win at home vs the Cleveland Cavaliers. Tyrese Haliburton had 23 points and 10 assists in the win. Aaron Nesmith also added 22 points for Indiana. The Pacers improve to 49-31 and clinched home-court advantage for the first-round of the playoffs. Right now, they are in 4th place in the Eastern Conference Standings. Indiana has two games left in the regular season. Tonight, the Pacers host the Orlando Magic at 6:00 PM and on Sunday will close the regular season in Cleveland against the Cavaliers at 12:00 PM.
