The Mount Vernon Police Department says a man who was wanted in Posey County has been arrested in Kansas City, Missouri. The arrest follows after Mt. Vernon police were able to track the man, officials say. According to a release, back in May of 2021, a large-scale drug round-up was performed in Posey Co. where 16 people were arrested. Police say those people were arrested on state and federal charges in reference to a drug trafficking operation. After the raid was performed, Jeffrey Bates remained at large. In February of 2023, an investigation to Bates’ whereabouts began. Police say open-source investigations to find possible address for Bates led them to Kansas City. According to a release, on February 7, Kansas City police notified Mt. Vernon police that they found Bates and had him in custody. Bates is currently being held in Jackson County, Missouri awaiting extradition back to Indiana. Bates is facing a dealing methamphetamine charge.

The University of Evansville (UE) released a statement in response to reports of a racial incident that happened during a party off-campus. UE says it was made aware of an incident they did not elaborate on and as a result swiftly took action. UE says it’s already conducted an “intial intake” with several parties involved, and is actively cooperating with investigators to resolve the issue. The university says it has taken further specific actions to ensure that the campus environment remains free from racism. Officials say however, confidentiality is crucial in these matters and due to federal privacy laws the university can’t provide much more information beyond what has already been shared. The University’s full statement can be found in the news section on our website at poseycountyradio.com.

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is working with several groups to bring highways that charge electric vehicles to the state. While it may sound like a thing of the future, INDOT says it may be a reality in the Hoosier State quicker than you think. INDOT says it's been working with the Joint Transportation Research Program and Purdue University to develop the contactless, wireless charging concrete pavement highway segment. Transportation officials compare the first-of-its-kind technology to a wireless charging pad for your cell phone. INDOT says this project actually began in 2021, and includes several phases such as pavement testing, pavement analysis, and optimization research. With the laboratory testing phase now complete, INDOT says engineers are working on the final design for a physical, quarter-mile testbed. The final phase of the project will include testing and the construction of that testbed in West Lafayette.
