The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a road closure for State Road 66 near Parkers Settlement. Starting on or around Monday, May 8, crews will close State Road 66 near Parkers Settlement for a bridge replacement. This closure will remove and replace the existing bridge over Rock Bottom Creek. Work to replace the bridge is expected to last through mid-June, depending on the weather. The official detour for this project is State Road 165 to I-64 to State Road 65. Local traffic will have access up to the point of closure.

The Mt. Vernon M-Club posted on Facebook yesterday, an invitation for the public to get pre-registered for the Posey County Poker run. It will take place on July 22^nd. This is a fundraiser to help the youth in the community get scholarships to any Mt. Vernon Youth Camp they would like to attend. If you pre-register, the cost is 15 dollars per person. The pre-registration ends on May 15^th and after that date the cost will be 20 dollars per person. You can visit the Mt. Vernon M-Club Facebook page for more information.

USI Men's Basketball announced the signing of 6-foot-1 guard Luther Smith, Jr. and 6-foot-2 guard Jordan Tillmon for the 2023-24 season. Smith and Tillmon are the first to sign with USI and Head Coach Stan Gouard this spring. Smith comes to USI from Sussex Hamilton High School (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) where he earned first-team All-Greater Metro Conference as a junior and senior. He averaged 27.8 points per game last year as a senior.
 
Tillmon joins the Eagles after spending the 2022-23 season with Florida A&M University where he posted 10.6 points, 2.4 assists, and 3.0 rebounds in 34.8 minutes per contest. Prior to last season at Florida A&M, Tillmon was first team All-Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference during his two seasons at Connors State College.

USI Men’s Basketball completed their first NCAA Division I season under Gouard by earning a trip to the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament and to the Collegiate Basketball Invitational (CBI). USI was 16-17 overall during the first Division I schedule, finishing seventh in the OVC with a 9-9 conference mark.

Yesterday the updated High School Baseball and Softball rankings were released with several tri-state teams receiving recognition. Starting with the High School Baseball rankings as in Class 4A, North is 7^th and Castle is 8^th. In Class 3A, Jasper is 4^th. Class 2A rankings has Forest Park 1^st. In Class 1A, Barr-Reeve is 3^rd, Tecumseh is 5^th, and North Daviess is 10^th. Schools that are receiving votes include Memorial, Southridge, North Posey, South Knox, and Northeast Dubois.

From the High School Softball rankings, North is ranked 14^th in Class 4A. Class 3A has Gibson Southern 3^rd and Pike Central 6^th. In Class 2A, North Posey is 1^st. Class 1A has Barr-Reeve 1^st, Tecumseh 2^nd, and Northeast Dubois 15^th.

• Mt. Vernon Baseball (3-11) is at home tonight taking on North Posey (11-6) at 5:00 PM. You can hear the game on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com.

• Mt. Vernon Softball (10-7) is also at home tonight as they battle Princeton at 5:30 PM.

• USI Baseball (15-28) travels to Carbondale tonight to battle the Salukis of SIU at 6:00 PM.

• USI Softball (18-20) is home against Austin Peay at 3:00 PM.

• The St. Louis Cardinals (10-19) start a 3-game series at home against the Los Angeles Angels at 6:45 PM.    

• The Chicago Cubs (15-13) continue their series in Washington against the Nationals at 6:05 PM.   

• The Cincinnati Reds (12-17) play game 2 of their series out west in San Diego vs the Padres at 8:40 PM.

• The Chicago White Sox (8-21) welcome the Minnesota Twins into town at 6:10 PM.
