Coming up tonight from 6:00-6:30 PM on 106.7 FM WMVI, it’s the Mt. Vernon Basketball Coaches Show. The show will be broadcasted live from United Fidelity Bank in Mt. Vernon. Allen Buck hosts the show and chats with Wildcats Basketball Head Coach, Joe Newcomb. Mt. Vernon this past week lost at Mater Dei on Tuesday, beat Tecumseh at home Friday, and fell to Princeton at home on Saturday. They sit at 9-14 on the season. Mt. Vernon has one regular season game left and that is this Thursday night at South Spencer.

North Posey Basketball defeated Tell City this past Friday to improve to 12-9 on the year. The Vikings also have just one regular season game left and it’s this Thursday at Gibson Southern.

Sunday night the IHSAA released the boys’ basketball sectional pairings as postseason play begins next week. Mt. Vernon drew Boonville in the opening game of the Class 3A Sectional 32 next Tuesday night at 6:00 PM. That sectional is hosted at Boonville High School. If Mt. Vernon beats Boonville, they would then play Gibson Southern in the second round.

North Posey Boys Basketball plays in the Class 2A Sectional 48 hosted by Tell City High School and the Vikings drew South Spencer in the first game next Tuesday night. If North Posey defeats South Spencer, then they would play Perry Central in the second round.

 

The University of Southern Indiana College of Liberal Arts is partnering with USI Public Safety and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) to offer active shooter training and a town hall meeting for discussion in response to recent local and national events. According to a release, training and discussion will be available Wednesday and Thursday, March 1st and 2nd to give students, faculty and staff the opportunity to attend. Both sessions will take place from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Kleymeyer Hall, located in the lower level of the Liberal Arts Center. Officials say the training sessions are intended to help the USI community learn how to respond to potential active shooter incidents. Public Safety officers, counselors and representatives from the College of Liberal Arts will be available to address questions.

 

According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, the Diamond Avenue exit ramp on US Highway 41 is now back open. According to the INDOT: Southwest Facebook page, the southbound exit ramp is now back open as of yesterday. The exit ramp has been closed since September of 2022. Officials tell drivers to expect a few lane closures still until mid-April as contractors put their final touches on the ramp.

 

Portions of Vine Street will be closed in Evansville starting today. The Vine Street Road closure will be extended from the intersection of Vine and 4th Street to the intersection of Vine and 5th Street. Evansville Water and Sewer Utility says Vine Street will be completely closed from 2nd Street to 5th Street. No through traffic will be allowed. They say road closures are necessary to continue waterline work and storm sewer replacement.

 

Ford Center has booked another country artist that is planning on coming in August. Jelly Roll will be stopping in Evansville on August 22nd with his Backroad Baptism tour that kicks off this summer. People might know his hit single “Son of a Sinner.” Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. According to a social media post, special guests Struggle Jennings and Caitlynne Curtis are also set to make an appearance. They say you can buy those tickets at the Ford Center Ticket Office and Ticketmaster.com.

- Evansville Baseball plays at Kentucky today at 3:00 PM.

- USI Baseball travels to Lipscomb at 3:00 PM. 

- In Men's College Basketball tonight...#17 Indiana (19-8) visits Michigan State at 8:00 PM. You can hear that game on 106.7 FM WMVI. Ball State (19-8) welcomes Kent State at 6:00 PM. Murray State (15-13) heads to Missouri State at 6:00 PM.
