A boil water advisory for a portion of Posey County has been lifted. The German Township Water District issued the advisory on Monday following repairs to a water main break. The district says test results were satisfactory and it is no longer necessary to boil tap water.

 

At 1:30 PM yesterday, Owensville Montgomery Township Fire Protection District was dispatched to the area of 1050 West and 675 South in reference to a brush fire that was out of control. Fire units were on scene for a couple of hours extinguishing the fire. Princeton Fire, Wadesville Fire, and Posey Fire Department all provided mutual aid.

 

North Posey High School is having a Christmas Toy Drive as part of their 1st Annual “Spirit of Christmas” Event. They are looking for donations of new (unwrapped) toys. All toys will be donated to Toys for Tots on behalf of the North Posey Community. They are accepting donations through Friday, December 16th. Coming up this Friday, it is High School Football Regionals. Mt. Vernon and North Posey Football have been eliminated from postseason play, but we will have High School Football on 106.7 FM WMVI this Friday night. With many families and students in the Posey County area that have ties to Mater Dei, we will be broadcasting the Mater Dei at Triton Central Class 2A Regional Football game at 5:30 PM on 106.7 FM. Lance Wilkerson will bring you all the action on the radio and fans can also listen online at poseycountyradio.com. Mater Dei is 9-3 on the season and Triton Central is 10-2.

Other Regional Football matchups on Friday include a Class 5A matchup between 7-4 Castle and 9-1 Bloomington South at 6:30 PM. That game will be played at Castle High School. In Class 4A, 9-3 Memorial will play host to 10-2 East Central at 6:30 PM at Enlow Field in Evansville. There is one matchup on Saturday and that is in Class 3A with 11-1 Southridge hosting 11-1 Lawrenceburg at 4:00 PM.

 

The University of Southern Indiana says the school’s Mathematical Sciences Department is expanding its work to enhance data science and statistics teacher preparation. This will be done through a five-year, $2.5 million grant from the National Science Foundation. The project is a collaboration between USI and several other universities. North Carolina State University, Eastern Michigan University and the Concord Consortium will be part of this project. USI will receive an estimated $175,000 from it. Dr. Rick Hudson, Chair of the Mathematical Sciences Department, Professor of Mathematics and Co-Principal Investigator on the project, says at its conclusion, the collaborative team will develop, curate, and disseminate high-quality data science and statistics teacher education curriculum materials.

 

The first of a series of Access to Service Fairs is set for this evening in Evansville. Residents will have opportunities to speak with representatives of CenterPoint Energy and the Water and Sewer Department about their accounts. The six events will be held at the CK Newsome Center during the winter heating season, with the first one being tonight from 5:00 pm until 7:00 PM. The city says representatives from local assistance agencies and township trustee offices will also be available. The sessions follow steep increases in heating bills last year, and ongoing rate increases for water and sewer.

 

The West Side Nut Club is preparing for its annual Santa Land event. The Christmas-themed event will take place in Evansville on two weekends in December - Dec. 10 and Dec. 11, then Dec. 17 and Dec. 18, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM each day. This year's plans include complimentary cookies, hot chocolate, and free photos with Santa Claus. There will also be special visits from characters like Paw Patrol, Buzz Lightyear, SpongeBob, the Grinch, Barney, and many more.
