Indiana State Police detectives have arrested 48-year-old Melissa Wade, of Mt. Vernon, for allegedly shooting her husband during an argument that happened inside their residence Friday evening. Wade has been released from Deaconess Midtown Hospital and is currently being held without bond in the Posey County Jail. Herbert Wade is still being treated for his injuries. Melissa Wade is being charged with Attempted Murder, which is a Level 1 Felony, Aggravated Battery which is a Level 3 Felony, and Battery with a Deadly Weapon, a Level 5 Felony. ISP says officers were called to a shooting at a home on SR 62 near North Sauerkraut Lane in west Mt. Vernon around 9:00 Friday night. When officers arrived, they found 58-year-old Herbert Wade on the living room floor with a gunshot wound. They also found his wife, 48-year-old Melissa Wade, in a bedroom with a gunshot wound. Detectives say the married couple was involved in an argument when Melissa allegedly shot Herbert in the chest with a handgun. Detectives also believe Melissa accidentally shot herself in the leg. According to ISP, a minor was in the home at the time of the shooting, but they were uninjured.
Habitat for Humanity of Evansville is crossing the county line once again. They had a groundbreaking of a new build in Posey County on Friday. Although 14 homes have been built by the organization in Mount Vernon, this latest project will be the first in northern Posey County. The latest build is taking place at 80 East Oak Street. For a family to be eligible for the program, they must have an income of at or below 80% of the median, with most contributing 300 hours of volunteer work with the organization. Each completed home provides new 0% APR mortgages to families. This will be the first home built in Poseyville, but funds to complete two additional Habitat homes has already been raised. Officials with the West Side Nut Club say they are holding a pre-sale of wristband vouchers for the 101st Fall Festival. Those will be available from September 1 through September 30 at all area Donut Bank and Schnucks locations. They say each voucher bought in advance will cost $20, which is a $5 discount. Those wristbands are good for all rides.
Mt. Vernon Football’s Nicot Burnett is up for the Courier and Press Player of the Week Award. The Junior Quarterback accounted for four total touchdowns and passed for 184 yards in the Wildcats 56-30 win against South Spencer on Friday. Voting takes place at courierpress.com.
