A Mt. Vernon man was arrested yesterday after a death investigation was conducted by Indiana State Police and Mt. Vernon Police. 26-year-old, Devin Morrison was arrested yesterday at approximately 12:19 PM at his residence without incident and taken to the Posey County Jail where he is currently being held without bond. On Thursday, September 8th, Posey County 911 Dispatch received a call in the morning from a residence located at 405 East 5th street in Mt. Vernon. The caller was requesting an ambulance for an unresponsive 10-month-old child. Posey County EMS arrived at the residence and transported the female child to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, where she died later that day from her injuries. According to detectives, the child had signs of trauma and the nature of her injuries were suspicious. An autopsy was conducted on Monday, September 12th at the Vanderburgh County Morgue. According to the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office, the child died from subdural hemorrhage due to multiple skull fractures. The manner of death was ruled a homicide. The father of the child that was arrested yesterday, Devin Morrison, is being charged with Neglect of a Dependent causing death which is a Level 1 Felony.
A motorist going the wrong way on West Franklin Street in Evansville drove headlong into a sinkhole created by a water main break early this morning. There were no injuries. Crews were on scene working at the time. The break was reported at 2:00 AM near West Franklin Street and Seventh Avenue. The sinkhole was created when the water main break caused pavement to collapse. A precautionary boil advisory is in effect for an area bounded by Pigeon Creek, Fulton Avenue, and West Franklin Street south to the Lloyd Expressway. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
Ellis Park in Henderson is about to transfer ownership once again as the current owners get set to hand over the reins to Churchill Downs. The company announced yesterday that it signed a definitive agreement to purchase Ellis Park Racing & Gaming from Enchantment Holdings, LLC. The total compensation package includes $79 million in cash. According to Churchill, the deal is subject to certain working capital and other purchase price adjustments. The new owners say they will also assume Ellis Park’s opportunity to construct a new track extension facility in Owensboro. Ellis Park just celebrated its 100th anniversary of racing in 2022.
Coming up this weekend in New Harmony is one of Indiana’s biggest art festivals, Kunstfest. It takes place this Saturday from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM and Sunday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Visitors can expect plenty of shopping options including hand crafted and unique vendor booths, German food booths, local food trucks, live music, beer garden, and a mimosa bar on Sunday. Kunstfest is made possible by the New Harmony Business Association and the title sponsor of the festival this year is Heritage Federal Credit Union.
Week 5 of the High School Football season is tonight. A heads up for North Posey Football fans. Before tonight’s game at home against Heritage Hills, there will be a Vikings Tailgate Party. The tailgate will be in the old practice football field, behind the baseball field, and next to the tennis courts. The entire public is invited to the tailgate, which will get underway at 5:00 PM. There will be hamburgers, German Bologna, chips, and water with donation. You are encouraged to bring your favorite sides, chairs, and games to play. Kickoff for the game between North Posey and Heritage Hills is set for 7:00 PM. Both teams are 3-1 on the season. If you can’t make it to the game, Jordan Fisher will have you covered with the radio broadcast on 98.9 WPIW.
The Mt. Vernon Wildcats are on the road tonight for a second-straight week. Mt. Vernon who is 3-1 on the year, will be going for a 4th-straight win at Forest Park. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 PM. Chris Cooke and Allen Buck will have all the action with the radio broadcast on 106.7 WMVI.
