This Saturday and Sunday, St. Phillip’s Conservation Club is having their annual Burgoo Sale. The cost of the Burgoo is 20 dollars per gallon. It will be on sale at the hall behind St. Philip Church, which is located at 3500 St. Philip Road South. You can swing by on Saturday from 2:00-6:00 PM and on Sunday from 8:00 AM-12:00 PM.

 

Family Matters of Posey County is reminding the community that this Monday they will be having a Food Distribution event. Free food boxes will be available from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM at the Posey County Co-Op lot. It is first come, first serve with a limited 150 boxes. You will be allowed 1 box per vehicle.

 

A man pled guilty to a charge in connection to the death of a 1-year-old girl in Posey County. Richard Kennedy appeared in court and pled guilty to neglect of a dependent resulting in death, which is a Level 1 felony. He will be sentenced on April 4 at 1:30 p.m. Kennedy faces up to 30 years in prison for the neglect charge, plus an additional 18 months for violating probation. He and Samantha Burris were arrested in October 2018 after 14-month-old Nyla Brantley died from head injuries. Police say Kennedy and Burris were babysitting the child. Burris, who’s also charged with neglect of a dependent, is scheduled for trial starting on April 11.

 

The 9th annual Franklin Street Gumbo Cookoff is set to kick off this weekend. All along West Franklin Street people will be able to sample gumbo from several businesses, who are partnering with non-profits. On the day of the event, it will cost $30. Attendees are asked to bring their own spoons, but if you forget, you can buy some at the mug pick up sites. The event is set to start Saturday at 1:00 PM. and end at 4:00 PM.

 

Plans for pickleball courts in Evansville crossed another hurdle on Wednesday. During a meeting of the Evansville Parks Board five bids were submitted to the city for construction of the new courts planned at Wesselman Park. The 24-courts will be located in an unused space next to the tennis courts. A group of residents against the project continue to call for changes to the existing plan. City leaders continue to defend the project, saying it will benefit the entire community. After the approval of funding last fall, the expected price tag for the project is $7 million dollars.

 

A restaurant in downtown Evansville is temporarily closed after a driver crashed into it yesterday. It happened at Peephole Bar and Grill on Main Street just after 2:00 PM. Police say that one person eating inside was hurt and taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Officers say the driver of the car was not hurt. EPD officials say the driver was turning left onto Main Street when he got distracted and hit the building. They say drugs and alcohol were not a factor. No word yet on when the restaurant will reopen.

 

Sports:

- Mt. Vernon Boys Basketball (8-13) plays host to Tecumseh at 7:30 PM. The Wildcats are trying to snap a 4-game skid. Catch the game on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com. Chris Cooke and Allen Buck will have the call. Mt. Vernon will also be home tomorrow night against Princeton at 7:00 PM. 

- North Posey Boys Basketball (11-9) is off tonight, but they play Tell City tomorrow evening at 7:00 PM. You can hear that game on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com. 

- Evansville Women's Basketball (10-13, 5-9) hopes to end a 4-game losing streak tonight when they welcome Illinois-Chicago at 6:00 PM. 

- College Baseball begins today and Evansville opens their season at Troy. Game 1 of that 3-game series is today at 4:00 PM. 

- USI Baseball begins their season against Western Illinois today at 2:00 PM. That is a 4-game series and is being played in Millington, TN.
