The City of Mt. Vernon posted on Facebook a message from the Water Superintendent. During the cold front, do not open your water meter box as it will freeze and cause extended issues. If you are experiencing issues with your water, call the water department and they will come out to help alleviate the issues. If you run your faucets during the cold front, that is alright but, keep in mind that it will show on your monthly statement.
Mt. Vernon Street Department posted their holiday trash schedule. All city offices will be closed on Monday December 26th in observance of Christmas and Monday January 2nd in observance of New Years Day. If your normal trash collection day is Monday, your trash will be picked up on the following Tuesday. If you have any questions or concerns, you can call the office at 812-838-2352. If you need the holiday schedule for your recycling, you are to call the Posey County Solid Waste at 812-838-1613.
North Posey Basketball has had their games yesterday and today in the Toyota Classic postponed due to the incoming weather. They will make those games up by playing twice on Monday, January 2nd at 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM at Wood Memorial High School. Those two games will be against Wood Memorial and White River Valley.
With extreme cold throughout the weekend, warming centers will be open across the state for those in need of a safe and warm place to stay. Indiana 211 is a resource for updated locations and hours of warmings centers in your area, as many of the traditional locations people may seek shelter could be closed due to the holidays. The Evansville Rescue Mission announced today that they have bought a new building for the launch of the future Susan H. Snyder Center for Women and Children. According to a press release, that new building is at 1400 Professional Boulevard. Officials say they are now working on renovating the space. No word yet on when they hope to have the building finished and open.
