Mt. Vernon High School has made an announcement for students interested in joining the swim team. All current and new swimmers interested in being on the team are to meet at the school pool on Friday, September 2nd at 7:00 AM. There will be breakfast at the pool that day as well.
Mt. Vernon River Days is coming up on September 9th and 10th and there is still room for entries for the Smoke on the Ohio event. Teams from Posey County will be going after the defending Posey County champion, Matt Williams of Hawg Boyz BBQ. Sign up for the fun filled event, which includes a Friday night meal and Saturday morning breakfast pizzas. Once again, the Smoke on the Ohio is an event that is part of Mt. Vernon River Days on September 9th and 10th. River Days includes vendors, concessions, and numerous events on both days.
USI Men’s Basketball picked up a big transfer today. Former Bosse High School standout, Kiyron Powell announced this morning on Twitter that he will be playing for the Screaming Eagles next year. Powell was previously at the University of Houston under Head Coach Kelvin Sampson. The 6-foot-8 center played only in 14 games with the Cougars and redshirted last year. Powell will have 3-years of eligibility.
Coming up this evening across the tri-state, it’s Week 2 of the High School Football season. Mt. Vernon plays their home opener against South Spencer at 7:00 PM. Wildcats are searching for their first win of the season, after losing at Heritage Hills last Friday. Join Chris Cooke and Allen Buck for all the action on 106.7 FM WMVI as the pregame show gets underway at 6:45 PM. North Posey Football plays their home opener this evening against Princeton at 7:00 PM. The Vikings are looking to start 2-0 after they thumped South Spencer last Friday night, 61-14. Jordan Fisher will have all the action on 98.9 FM WPIW with the pregame show at 6:45 PM. Both the Mt. Vernon and North Posey games tonight can be heard online as well at poseycountyradio.com.
