CenterPoint Energy is continuing to move toward renewable energy. They say they have a proposed plan to end its use of Indiana coal by 2027. Officials say the plan is expected to save customers nearly $80 million and reduce carbon emissions from its electric generation fleet by more than 95% over the next 20 years. CenterPoint officials say by 2030, it is expected that more than 80% of their electricity will be generated by solar and wind, with the remainder provided by natural gas.

Posey County Emergency Management posted on Facebook that lane restrictions will soon be in place on part of State Road 68 in Posey County. The Indiana Department of Transportation says that starting next Tuesday May 2nd, crews with WIN Energy will be restricting eastbound traffic on SR 68 near Poseyville. INDOT says the restrictions will be in place to allow crews to frame and set utility poles along the road. After each pole is set, the lane restrictions will move east along with the work. INDOT says the work is expected to last through the end of June. Drivers are reminded to slow down and stay alert near crews as they work.

Keep Evansville Beautiful is giving away trees today for Arbor Day. It’s at Wesselman Woods Shelter number 1 from 11:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Mayor Lloyd Winnecke will be there to help Keep Evansville Beautiful kick off Arbor Day. With a grant from CenterPoint Energy, they’re able to provide more than 300 free trees to residents of Evansville. The trees are grown by Tom Guggenheim of New Harmony through a special process known as tubing. Guggenheim who is an arborist, along with the city’s arborist, Shawn Dickerson, will be on hand to answer questions about the proper way to plant a tree and how to maintain it. They are good-sized trees, as some 10 to 15 feet tall. Employees of 811 will be on hand to stress the importance of calling 811 before digging.
