North Posey Baseball earned a 13-9 win at Central last night. The Vikings improve to an impressive 15-2 mark on the season.

North Posey Softball picked up a solid 6-2 win at home over Southridge.

Mt. Vernon Baseball had their game rained out last night at Evansville Christian. The game was supposed to be played at Bosse Field.

 

Coming up tonight in local high school sports, North Posey Baseball hits the road to play Washington at 5:30 PM.

Mt. Vernon Baseball is home against Tell City at 6:00 PM. That game can be heard on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com.

Mt. Vernon Softball travels to North for a 5:00 PM start.

 

The May Tox-Away Day will be held today at the Mt. Vernon Recycling Center from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM. This is a chance to properly dispose of old household chemicals, NON-latex paint, NON-alkaline batteries, fluorescent bulbs, household chemicals, etc. For more information, call 812-838-1613.

 

Yesterday was career day at North Posey High School. 7th through 12th grade students had the opportunity to get firsthand experience in the workforce. The morning started with presentations by real work professionals from organizations like Deaconess and AstraZeneca, but also carpenter groups, the Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association and Ragle Inc. construction group. The idea is to expose students to a wide variety of options for after graduation and also possible apprenticeships they can have while still in school. Towards the end of the day, juniors and seniors took part in a job fair, where they can learn more about specific jobs. The rest of the students got to see demonstrations from these organizations including a concrete pump and pour.

 

The Posey County Probation Department posted on Facebook that they are currently accepting resumes for the position of Probation Officer. This position serves as an Adult Probation Officer who is responsible for conducting investigations with clients, making recommendations to the courts, conducting assessments, utilizing evidenced-based strategies to promote behavioral change, and supervising clients for enforcement of court orders and conditions of community supervision. Qualifications for this position include having a bachelor’s degree with a major in criminal justice, social work, or a related field. You also must be at least 21 years of age, must believe that people are capable of behavior change, the ability to work as a member of a team, and express excellent written and verbal communication skills. Salary is based on Indiana minimum salary schedule for Probation Officers. Applications and resumes are being accepted until May 14th at 4:00 PM.

 

From Major League Baseball on Wednesday…the St. Louis Cardinals fell in the finale of their three-game set in Detroit against the Tigers, 4-1. The Cardinals fall to 14-17 after they finish a six-game road-trip with a 3-3 record. St. Louis is off today and will begin a three-game series back at home tomorrow night against the Chicago White Sox.

The Chicago Cubs blanked the Mets in New York, 1-0. The Cubs are now 19-12 and wrap up their series at the Mets this afternoon at 12:10 PM.

The Cincinnati Reds got beat in San Diego by the Padres in the series finale, 6-2. Cincy now sits just a game over .500 at 16-15. The Reds are off today and head back home for a series with the Baltimore Orioles tomorrow evening.

 

From the NBA Playoffs…the Indiana Pacers have another chance tonight to punch their ticket to the second round of the playoffs. The Pacers square off with the Milwaukee Bucks in downtown Indianapolis at 5:30 PM Central Time tonight for Game 6 of their First-Round Playoff Series. Indiana leads the best-of-seven series, 3-2.
